Mr. J. writes: What is the first, best method to relieve one of the after
effects of nervous prostration?
Answer: Do you sometimes say the sun sets? Well, it doesn't. It just
seems to. The fact is that the earth turns over and carries us into darkness.
Likewise when you speak of nervous prostration you are speaking inarrnr-
ately. While there is such a condition as neuritis, (inflamed nerves), there
is no such thing as prostrated, worn-out, depleted nerves.
of Thy love, Thy beauty and
wav for men. Amen.
Much of the unevenness in business is caused by the fact -that there is
so much lack of co-operation. If a group doubts that times are good, that
makes other groups doubtful. And frequently times become bad for no oth-
er reason than that too many people thought them bad—while in reality they
were good.
So there are no physical after-effects in nervous prostration. The role
assumed was a blunder. Get back into life again with all possible speed,
and let tune efface all memory of the mistake.

IF you do not enjoy your food it
is a true sign that you are losing
your appetite. And when your ap-
petite is “gone” it means you
haven't the resistance to ward off
disease. Loss 0/ appetite is only
a symptom. General weakness per-
vades the entire body. There-is no
desire to work or play.- \
Rich, red, blood builds and
sustains
Your physician will tell you that
lowered vitality is the result of an
insufficient supply of red blood
cells—those vitalizing -elements in
the blood that build and sustain
the body.
Without plenty of rieh, red blood,
there can be no strong, sturdy,
powerful men, or beautiful, healthy
women.
When you get your blood cells
back up to normal, that sluggish,
let-down feeling, loss of appetite,
rheuffiatism, boils, pimples, and
■kin troubles disappear. You get
hungry again; sleep soundly; solid
flesh takes the place of that which
was once flabby. You feel strong;
and your nerves become steady.

, Your proetratioh was a soul-weariness that stole upon you unawares; So
the first step ia to recognize that it is your psyche and not your nervous
system that is out of sorts. Then you will not make the mistake of taking
a rest cure. The second step will be in the direction of self-understanding.
•Did you think you had worked too hard, studied too earnestly, borne too
much responsibility? Your ego is just trying to play the martyr role for
want of some better way to get into the lime light. There is no such thing
as overwork unless one is physically ill, and even then it does not affect
the nerves.

Mrs. P. writes: Will you kindly inform me if there is a reputable, gen-
uine psychotherapist physician in or near my home town of ?
Answer: The question is whom can we trust in our quest for health for
psyche—for the most intimate and far reaching needs of the personality?
This same question—Whom can we trust?—comes up when your inflamed
appendix needs a surgeon; or your legal affairs demand the services of a
lawyer; or when the church, yoair spiritual home, needs a new minister; or
your nation a diplomat We trust those who have earned their degrees in
their respective schools of medicine, theology and law. Training for service
in the diplomatic corps is now being undertaken by the universities.
Only of recent date has the study of the personality and its defects been
undertaken in scientific fashion. For that reason the schools have been
rather tardy in placing psychology in the curriculum, and recognising its
value in relation to practical every day life. This teaching is sometimes
done in the department of medicine, sometimes in connection with pedagogy
or philosophy. Without doubt, other things being equal, a medical training
is of great advantage to the specialist in psychic treatment. In Europe very
careful training is being given to the man who would become a psycho-
analyst. The candidate must himself be analyzed to fit him for his work.
Due caution should be exercised in determining the qualifications of the
one who is to serve you, whether in law or in medicine, whether in religion
or in psychology. In each of these professions there are ravening wolves
in sheep’s clothing. Look up the credentials of the man who is to conduct
your treatment. r . -

MEDICAL ADVICE
M AVOID all things that stir your ire, be tranquil, smiling and serene;
for anger is a glowing fire that overheats your blood and spleen.
Whene'er ycfi feel your anger rise, be prompt to use some soothing balm;
for every day some fellow dies who might live on if
he were calm.” Thus spake today the good old doc,
when I had paid his monthly bill; he always has
some helpful talk that’s worth far more than helpful
pill. He tells me that my frame of mind has much
to da with how I feel; if I am cheerful, calm and
kind, it will contribute to my weal. I try to follow
his advice, and I go beaming here and there, and if
a flivver bumps me twice, I do not rend my clothes
and swear. No misadventure stira my bile, for I re-
call the doctor's rede, and wear a wide and patient
smile, which is a benison, indeed. The old time doc-
tor didn't care about a patient's mental state; he'd
tell me that I ought to wear woefl underclothes of heavy weight; he would
instruct me as to how I should avoid the deadly draft; leave some sugges-
tions as to- choW, and poultice me both fore and aft. He did not cate if I
should rant, and paw around and groan and grouse; and so my wife and
maiden aunt found me a nuisance in the house. But 'now the doctor says,
“Kerchoof Preserve a cool, unruffled mien, for apoplexy threatens you un-
less yourire quiet and aerene.” And now my wife and aunt and niece declare
it's good to see me nek; no more do I disturb ths peace; no longer do I

So, you see Beebe was placed upon his wits at ortce. But soon he car-
