Safe Stolen
Easter Sunday
From Church
Investigation is underway
as to the theft of a heavy
metal safe taken from the
sacristy of Sacred Heart
Catholic Church around
2:30 or 3:00 a.m. Easter
morning. Discovery of
the incident started when
two local young men al-
most ran over the safe on
FM Road west of the
church.
The safe, an old taber-
nacle being used to store
chalices, was still locked
when found. The crucifix
on the heavy tabernacle
identified the object as
coming from the nearby
Church.
The boys took the taber-
nacle back to the rectory
around 3:00 a.m. where
Father Gurzynski opened
the safe and found the
two chalices still inside.
The safe was evidently
taken following the Easter
services which lasted until
1:20 a. m. and while an
open house was underway
in the rectory.
Deputy Warren Hart was
called to investigate. The
young men who discovered
it were Ronnie Putman,
Steve Williams and Sandye
Hodge.
