White Deer Ministers ...
Spiritual Message
Rev. Jim Shamburger,
Pastor, First Baptist Church
of White Deer
Recently in our com-
munity we have had some
real needs for prayer arise.
My heart has been thrilled
how Christian people have
come together to pray.
We as Christians have
the greatest resource in the
world for solving problems,
but we don't always take
advantage of it as we
should. Instead of turning
to prayer when the first
signs of a problem appear,
we wait. We put it off until
we are either waist-deep
or almost drowning in our
difficulties before we
finally admit our limi-
tations and go to our best
source of help. We turn
to prayer to get the answers
we can not supply all by
ourselves.
Ralph Waldo Emerson,
the great American thinker,
explained well why prayer
is the greatest source for
solving problems. "Prayer, "
Emerson said "is the con-
templation of the facts of
life from the highest point
of view. "
Prayer can help us beyond
our limitations like climb-
ing a mountain and look-
ing down at a valley below.
You see the full panorama.
When you are down in the
valley looking up, you are
apt to see nothing but tree
branches hanging over your
head. That is the way the
problems are. They hang
over you until you find a
way to get above them and
see your world as it really
is.
We need prayer to lift us
up so we can get a better •
perspective of our prob-
lems and find the answers
which so often lie hidden
right before us. But most
of all we need to learn to
pray our way through prob-
lems, not as a last ditch
effort when other resources
fail, but from the begin-
ning.
There are some things
that we must do before our
prayers can be effective.
We must "BELIEVE PRAYER
WORKS. " How often have
you and I prayed, knowing
we need help yet still
doubting deep down in-
side that we will get an-
swers to our prayers. It is
easier to doubt than to let
go of will and let God use
us. But turning our prob-
lems over to God and be-
lieve that He is interested
in us and will do what is
best for us is exactly what
we must do. Believe God
will help you and He will.
Believe prayer works, for
it truly does.
The next thing we must
do is "Be Specific". We
must be simple, direct,
specific and very concrete
about what we are praying
for. God knows what we
want and need, but we
don't always. If we get
specific, we will not only
clarify our thoughts, but
we will be able to focus
our prayers toward the
solution of our problems.
If we are not specific, often
our prayers become dif-
fused. They become lost
because the direction is
not clear. So we must ask
God specific things to get
answers that are specific.
Thirdly, we must "Charge
our Problems with God's
Power". This is believing
in and allowing the Holy
Spirit to saturate our
problem. In this we will
see God's answer clearly
‘ and plainly portrayed

before us in our lives.
Some prayers work quick-
ly, while others take much
longer. There may be
many ups and downs and
sometimes the answers
may not be exactly what
we want. But one thing is
certain. God always an-
swers our prayers.
How are you handling
your problems right now?
Are you waiting until you
are waist-deep or almost
drowning before you ask '
for God's help? You don't
have to. Start praying.
Be specific, clearly stating
the need in your prayers.
Believe God has the right
answer as you saturate the
problem with God. This
is what it means to pray
your way through problems.
