“Ilis Wife’s Relations;”staged by
Brunk’s Comedians Friday night, had
them all laughing from the rise of
the first curtain until the orchestra,
which was augmented last night by
a clarionet, and a cornet some of the
time played the march-out. The or-
chestra, to continue, is good. They
play the latest musical hits, the, pro-
fessional scores, from the big music
houses of the north and cast—in other
words, the orchestra knows its busi-
ness.
But back to those relatives: A,mil-
lionaire cracker manufacturer mar-
ried a poor but honest girl, whose
principal asset, in the form of a
serous liability by the way, was a
large family of dependent—not de-
pendable—relatives.
This bunch “moved in” soon after
the wedding and "took charge”—
mother-in-law and all. When the mil-
. Isinaire got a line on thibgs, there was
weeping and wailing and all the rest
of ft, and he canned the whole bunch,
right off the reel.
It is difficult for some folks to
understand if there is such a fool-

This awakening of interest In the!

ful signs of the future, as I see it. |
A third thing calculated to kindlo |
hope in our hearts is this: In recent,
years the love for our common flag
has been INTENSIFIED in every i
section of our land.
Ten years ago the fire from the gun
of a Serbian student set Europe I
ablaze. Those flames spread and i

(Continued from page 3)
which are calculated to give us con-
cern about the. future of our State
and our Nation.
There are forces which are under-
mining the home, and when you de-
stroy the home, you remove the very
foundation of Christian civilization.
There is the spirit of Selfishness,
which breaks our people up into fac.
tions, making it impossible for them
to present a SOLID FRONT. This
is a dangerous spirit at work among
our people. I am free to confess.
Then, there is a Spirit of Lawless-
ness abroad in the land. This spirit
coming into the hearts of mon inspires
thcm tp^trample under their unhallowr
cd feet th'e laws of Gon and of men.
As an illustration of it, the Sabbath
is in danger of being converted into a
Holiday, instead of a HOLY DAY.
These tendencies, involving the sta-
bility of the HOME, tne UNITY of
our people and the laws of our land
as well as the laws of the Almighty
are Dangerous Tendencies. Hence,
there are those who can see Nothing
worth while in the future.
But, I am happy to say that, while
I recognize and regret these tenden-
cies, I am an optimist. I believe that
our people, and the institutions that
are most worth while weather the
storm.
What are some of the ' hopeful
things about the future?
One hopeful thing is the dispensing
of INTELLIGENCE among all the
people.
There have been times in the his-
tory of the race when it was thought
that EDUCATION was for the chosen
FEW. Unless you belong to a certain
class or cast, your children had no
educational advantages. That time, so
far as Texas and America are con-
cerned, has PASSED, and that forev-
er.
Now the poorest and humblest of
our land have the privileges afford-
ed by the free school system, making
it possible for the native powers of
the youth of our land to be developed
In such an atmosphere, Autocracy
in Government and Suporstitition in
Religion cannot long survive.
