You'll be ready for almost anything
after you learn to endure hardships
How well do you know God?
Most definitely not nearly as
well as he knows you.
That's because God can see
into the heart and he knows our
character inside and out He
knows our strengths and our
weaknesses.
The same thing goes for
Jesus his son. If we want to be
more like Jesus, just reading
God's Word isn't going to do it.
Only through real life expe-
riences are we going to truly be
able to walk in the footsteps of
Christ our Lord. Just as he en-
dured all kinds of problems, we
must also get through various
hardships to walk with him.
We will always feel the clos-
est to God our Father and Jesus
our Savior when we are endur-
ing problems and growing spiri-
tually.
"For our present troubles are
quite small and won't last very
long," says the Apostle Paul in
2 Corinthians 4:17. "Yet they
produce for us an immeasurably
great glory that will last for-
ever!"
Yet it's through these
struggles every one of us go
through in life that our faith is
made stronger and we draw
closer to the Lord.'
Paul says these struggles pro-
duce "great glory" that's impos-
sible to measure. It's like mak-
ing a fortune in the spiritual
sense — it's so vast that we can't
count it all.
Continuing on, Paul writes,
"So we don't look at the troubles
we can see right now. Rather, we
look forward to what we have
not yet seen. For the troubles we
see will soon be over, but the
joys to come will last forever."
Later in that same chapter,
Paul makes this plea to all
people: "Be reconciled with
God!" And the only way we can
do that is through faith in Jesus
who is able to make things right
for us with God our Creator and
Sustainer.
Unfortunately, problems
don't always make our faith
stronger. It all depends on our
attitude. If we become bitter,
then these circumstances just
pull us down — rather than raise
us up as God would want.
That's why we must always
respond as Jesus would. And
that's why we need to read the
Gospels of Matthew, Mark,
Luke and John to see how Jesus
lived when temptations and all
kinds of troubles arose.
He tackled problems head-
on, knowing that God his Father
in heaven would give him the
strength to overcome anything.
He trusted in God — and we
should too.
When Joseph was sold into
slavery by his brothers, he didn't
give up. He trusted in God and
became ruler of all Egypt under
Pharoah.
Joseph understood this truth
about trouble and how to react
to it. That's why he told his
brothers, "As far as I am con-
cerned, God turned into good
what you meant as evil" (Gen-
esis 50:20).
When he was confronted
with a life-threatening illness,
Isaiah proclaimed, "Yes, it was
good for me to suffer this an-
guish, for you have rescued me
from death and have forgiven all
my sins" (Isaiah 38:17).
Yes, it's through trials and
tribulations that every one of us
grows closer to God — and our
faith becomes so much stronger.
If you are having troubles
right now, don't ask, "Why is
this happening to me?"
Instead ask, "God, please
show me what you what me to
learn from this situation!" Then
put your trust in God and keep
on doing what is right — going
in the direction he leads.
Instead of dead-end roads,
God always offers detours. And
those new roads always lead us
to better things.
Ask God to give you pa-
tience to endure whatever is
placed upon you. And he will!
Ask him to give you faith.
And he will.
Ask him to make you con-
