Christinas Eve Service
• The First Presbyterian
Church of Yoakum would like to
invite the community to its an-
nual Come-As-You-Are Christ-
mas Eve service at 6 p.m. on
Wednesday, Dec. 24 The Revs. -
Ben Carpenter and W.P. Menn
will lead the service. The First
Presbyterian Church is located
at the comer of East Gonzales
and Simpson Street in Yoakum.

• The Relay For Life team cap-

• Ihe Yoakum Chamber of
Commerce Banquet will be held
Jan. 22 at the Yoakum Commu-
nity Center. Tickets are now
available for the banquet at the
Chamber Office or from any di-
rector. Tickets are $10 for an in-
dividual or $100 for a blue table.

V.F.W. annual party
• V.F.W. Post 2456 of Yoa-
kum will host their annual party
and membership drive Monday,
Jan. 12 at the Yoakum Commu-
nity Center beginning at 6 p.m.
A catered meal will be served at
7 p.m. Notice that dessert will be
provided by the caterer and mem-
bers do not need to bring one.
All members and their spouses
are invited to attend. This occa-
sion gives members an opportu-
nity to pay their 2004 dues. Also, ’
this gives any veteran who served
in any armed forces during over-
seas military campaign to join
the V.F. W. or more information
about joining call post Quarter-

Special guests will be the win-
ners of the Yoakum High School
Voice of Democracy Essay con-
test and winners of the Patriot
Pen Essay contest of Yoakum
Junior High School and St.
Joseph's School and their par-

Sweet Home PTO Chili
Supper & Auction
• Sweet Home PTO Chili Sup-
per & Auction is scheduled for
Saturday, Jan. 31 at the Sweet
Home Community Center. Meals
in the hall or plates to go will be
served from 5-7 p.m. Adult meal
tickets are $5 and child meal tick-
ets are $3. Games will start at 5
p.m. A raffle is also being held
now and at the event. The auc-
tion will begin at 7 p.m. All pro-
ceeds from this event go to the
Sweet Home PTO. For more in-

Yoakum Project show
fundraising dinner
• The Yoakum Project Show
fundraising dinner will be held
Saturday, Jan. 17. Pork steaks
and all the trimmings cooked by
Hochheim Prairie will be served
from 4-6 p.m. at the Yoakum City
Rodeo Arena. Tickets are $6 and
may be purchased from any 4-H
or FFA member
Yoakum Junior High U.I.L. Academic Meet winners
Yoakum Junior High School
recently competed in the District
27AAA UIL Academic Meet for
middle schools held in Luling.
Competing against students
from Cuero, Luling, Hallettsville,
Goliad and Gonzales, Yoakum
brought more than its share of the
medals home.
Medals will be awarded at the
Awards Day Ceremony in May,
2004. The winners were:

Hochheim Prairie donates to Blue Santa
Employees and officers from Hochheim Prairie Insurance recently collected gifts to donate to the Blue
Santa Program. Representatives from the Yoakum Police Department and EMS are shown accepting some

Intermediate donates to Food Pantry and Blue Santa
The students at Yoakum Intermediate held a Christmas Program and made donations to the First Baptist
Church Food Pantry and the Blue Santa program. The third graders sang at H E.B. and Yoakum Nursing and
Rehabilitation and Stevens Health Care; the fourth graders collected toys for Blue Santa and the fifth grad-
ers collected canned foods for the pantry. Shown above from left are First Baptist Church,Rev Richard

Allan Monk and Gladney Harrell of the Sweet Home Volunteer Fire Department recently presented a dona-
tion to members of the Yoakum Police and Fire Departments to help the Blue Santa Program The money
was collected at the Volunteer Fire Departments Christmas Party from the members and their families
