KC free throw contest
• All boys and girls age 10 to
14 are invited to compete in this
year's Knights of Columbus Coun-
cil #1582 basketball free throw
shooting contest to be held on Mon-
day, Feb. 10 at the St. Joseph
School Gym. Registration and
warm up begin at 6; 15 p.m. The
contest will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Contestants must show proof of
age as of Jan. 1,2003 to be eligible
for the contest. The registration
form must be signed by the
contestant's parent or guardian be-
fore the child is allowed to com-
pete. Trophies will be awarded to
the top two finishers in each age
group in both the boys and girls
division. Registration forms are
available at each local school.
There is no entry fee required. The
contest is open to all Yoakum area
boys and girls in the appropriate age
range.

• Championship Dominoes
22nd Annual Land of Leather 2003
Championship Tournament will be
held on Sunday, Feb. 9 at the Sweet
Home Community Center seven
miles North of Yoakum. Registra-
tion will begin Sunday at 7:30 a.m?
Play starts promptly at 9:30 a.m.
Registration fee is $ 10 per person -
$20 per team of two players. Tro-
phies and prize money will be
awarded to the first rout top win-
ners. A noon meal will be available
as well as snacks and refreshments.

Modern #90 Dance Feb. 15
• The Modern #90 Dance Club
was organized on Sept. 27, 1957.
It holds all dances at Yoakum
Turner Hall. The club has six
dances per year and engages the
best bands available. The bands
offer a wide variety of music, pol-
kas, waltz, country western and
ballroom. The governing board
consists of seven member couples.
Couples from Yoakum, Cuero,
Victoria, Gonzales, Shiner,
Moulton, Corpus Christi, San An-
tonio, New Braunfels, and
Fredericksburg make up the mem-
bership. The general public is in-
vited to Dance Feb. 15, 2003.
Dance time will be 8-11:30 p.m
with only one intermission. The
band will be Gus Lindemann. Ad-
mission is $6 per person. For more

'Great Big Thank You
Veterans' party
• The VFW and Ladies Auxil-
iary District 24 is giving a "Great
Big Thank You Veterans" party for
all Veterans on Sunday, March 23
at the Victoria VFW Post home at
2001 Lova Dr., Victoria at 1 p.m.
There will be fellowship, hoping
some Veterans will meet some of
their buddies, entertainment, and
food. All Veterans and their family's
are welcome. The Veterans do not
have to belong to any group and this
in not a membership drive. We just
want to say thank you for our free-
dom. Please come and let us honor

• St. Joseph's PTC will present
'An Enchanted Evening' on Satur-
day, Feb. 8, 2003 at the Yoakum
Community Center from 6 p.m. to
12:30 a.m. Entertainment will be
provided by Texas Dream. There
will be a steak and shrimp dinner, a
silent and live auction, a social hour
and dance. There will be only 300
tickets sold for $50 per ticket. Tick-
ets are available in the Church Rec-
tory or at the school office. Call

St Mary's Catholic Church in
Victoria will be celebrating their
Annual Parish Festival on Sunday,
Feb. 9 from 10:30 a.m. - 6 p.m at
the Victoria Community Center.
Brisket Barbecue with all the trim-

to 2 p.m. for $6 for adults and $3
for children 11 and under. Curb ser-

show
The 28th annual Shiner Rotary
Club Art and Hobby show returns
Sunday, Feb 23 at the Shiner Ameri-
