BAYTOWN - As William
Chamblin was arraigned Monday for
capital murder charges in the shooting
deaths of his wife and daughter,
Baytown police released audiotapes
of his unsettling call to 911.
The 49-year-old Chamblin sounded
calm and collected as he explained to
a Baytown 911 operator that he shot
his wife, Laura, and daughter, Marie.
Chamblin, a mechanical craftsman
with ExxonMobil, called 911 at 3:18
a.m. Saturday. He simply states his
address, says that he shot his wife and
child, and then hangs up when
prompted for his name.
Baytown Police Sgt. Richard
Whitaker said police now believe that
Laura, 49, and Marie, 22, were killed
in their Lakewood home between 7:30
and 9:30 p.m. Friday.
Whitaker said police did not receive
any reports of gunshots Friday night,
and Chamblin did not use a silencer.
Whitaker said it was possible that the
sounds were drowned out by thunder,
as storms were in the area Friday
night.
Police said that Chamblin still has
not provided any motive for killing his
family.
“He's talked a lot about what hap- Anderson ordered that Chamblin be
