been the golf pro for Evergreen,
as the complex’s new manager.
The three-year management
agreement expires in November.
Earlier this year, the city hired
a San Diego-based golf course
management consultant to per-
form an audit on the complex. In
an August report, the consultant
said that poor drainage caused by
design and construction issues
and exacerbated by heavy rainfall
over the past several years had
hampered the golf course's abili-
ty to attract players.
The consultant said the golf
course was operating on a mini-
mal staff, which would eventual-
ly impact play on the course. On
a scale of I to 10, the consultant
rated the Eagle Pointe course as
“a strong 6.” The consultant said
that the golf course would proba-
bly be able to turn a profit in three
years.
According to the city's 2005
budget, the golf course’s rev-
enues are projected to decline 11
percent from the previous year,
increasing the course’s net loss
from $78,625 in 2004 to
$187,462.
The recreation center’s rev-
enues, however, are budgeted to
increase 12 percent over last year.

Bush opposes parts
of Sept. 11 bill
WASHINGTON (AP) — The
White House came out
' Tuesday against parts of a
j Senate intelligence reorgani-
zation bill, saying they would
create “a cumbersome new
bureaucracy" for coordinating
the activities of 15 spy agen-
cies under a national intelli-
gence director.
Meanwhile, one of the
leaders of the Sept. 11 com-
mission, whose report was -
the impetus for the legisla-
tion, gave a lukewarm
endorsement to a House ver
Sion that would make the
head of the CIA the new '
national intelligence director
and increase fines and jail
time for terrorism hoaxes.
The Republicartcontrolled
Senate and House are trying
to finish legislation before the
November election.
While endorsing a Senate
bill, the White House said it
“is concerned about the
excessive and unnecessary
detail" in it.
Congress should simply
establish the national intelli-
gence director's office, said
the White House, leaving the
details for later of letting the
president and his advisers
handle them.
