Mr. Sara Eads ot Prairie Lea
was in Lockhart yesterday and
informed us that the cotton
was doing well enough, but that
the corn could not go much
longer without a rain, and that
a rain within the next few days
would do a great deal toward
making a good crop.
The event ot the week, in a
social way, was a party given
in honor of Miss Carson, uf
Victoria, and Miss Kent, of
Cuero, at the beautiful country
home of Mr. and Mrs. A D.
Mebane last night. Quite a
number of young people from
the city were present and a
most enjoyable time was had.
Conversation, games and music
comprised the leature’s of the
evening's entertainment, while
delightful refreshments were
served in an inimical manner by
the charming hostess, Mrs Me-
bane. The personel of the par-
ty was Misses Carson, Kent,
Mamie McCurdy, Lizzie Howell,
Linnie Randle and Irene Lan-
caster; Messrs. Paul Mebane,
Jeff Sparks Claude Brock, Ace
Hartsfield, Marvin Carpenter,
and Guy Sparks. The evening
was a most .deal and delightiul
one. the place one of the nret-
tiestand most attractive in the
county and the occasion one
long to be remembered.
NOTICE.
Those who are in the habit of
turning their calves out at night
will please bear in mind that
the pound law will be enforced
as far as they are concerned as
well as on other cattle and from
now on I shall pound all caught

Respectfully,
Lee Holmes.

Deafness Cannot be Cured.
By local applications, as they
cannot reach tue diseased por-
tion of the eai. There is only
one way to cure deafness, and
that is by constitutional reme-
dies. Deafness is caused by an
inflamed condition of the mu-
cous lining ot the Eustachian
Tube, when this tube is inflam-
ed you have a rumbling sound
or imperfect hearing and when
it is entirely closed Deafness is
the result, and unless the in-
flammation can be taken out and
this tube restored to its normal
condition, hearing will destroy-
ed forever; nine cases out of ten
are caused by Catarrh, which is
nothing but nn inflamed condi-
tion ot the mucous surfaces.
We will give one hundred dol-
