If you would like to break
up the monotony of the usual
week-day grind, why not add a
little spice in your life and do a
good deed by joining the Texas
National Guard.
That was the advice pre-
sented to the Cleveland Kiw-
anis Club last week by Capt
Wayne Hill of Delta Co., 386th
Combat Engineers, BAytown.
Texas National Guard
Capt Hill said the NG
helps the area in many ways,
assisting in fighting forest
fires, cleaning up and standing
guard in the aftermath of
tornadoes and hurricanes and
help to put down civil disturb
ances if necessary.
The speaker said Delta
Company was one of the top-
rated units in the state and he
said they obtained it by using a
different philosophy He said
squad leaders run the program
and most of them w ere recent
ly promoted sergeants

attack but that this was being
t studied. He said the NG want-
ed to work more closely with
the cities
He praised four Cleve-
land men for doing a good job
with the National Guard They
were Mike Roberts, Taylor
Allen. Sgt John Vandever and
SP4C Ricky Barrett.
Eormer servicemen who
want to join the Guard can go
in at the same rank as when
they were discharged They

and go to camp for two weeks
