PERKINS SURPRISED--As Tommy Scott (standing) looks on,
Advocate Sports Reporter Chip Perkins expresses more
♦han a little surprise during Saturday s All Sports Ban-

Perkins with a special appreciation award for his cover-

the first time ever Perkins was at a loss for words. (Phow

I lost a friend this past
week-end That is a selfish
statement because 1 feel the
City of Cleveland lost a friend,
a very good unselfish friend
Byford Bates was a friend of
humanity 1 had the privilege
ol working for him and with
him He was so vitally interest-
ed m what was good for the
City and all people My deep
est synipa’thy to Mrs. Bates
and her family So long, my
friend, you will be missed
there will be a memorial
fund established for Mr. Bates.
All his friends can bring their
gift t<> Fust Bank and Trust
and it will lie used to set up a
memorial for him through the
Dairy Day Association Dairy
Day was so important to him
and lie gave of himself so
generously to the Association
for many, many years
The many friends of Rog-
er Terrell son of Becky and
l.arrv D rrell will be delighted
to know that he is recovering
nicelv from brain surgery fol-
lowing an accident All who
would like to visit him or call
him may do so at Methodist
Hospital room 487 or call him
at 790 3581 Get well soon,
Roger, and come home
If you are looking for a
place of beaujy, don’t go to
Hwy 59 and the Coldspring
intersection What in heavens
name isgoing on’’ Cleveland is
supposed to be m the process
of clean up time and how in the
world do you ciVan up that
mess'' This is an embarass-
ment to all ‘ the people of
Cleveland, not only that, it is a
disgrace Let your feelings be
known wherever it will do the
most good There has to be
somebody responsible for this
and so it stands to reason there
