James Holley of New Caney an-
nounce the engagement and ap-
proaching marriage of their
daughter Pqm to Randy Pierce, son
of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Pierce also of
New Caney. The wedding will be
held on Nov. 27 at the VFW Hall in
Porter.

Cleveland Chapter. Young
Homemakers of Texas stayed at the
Sheraton Crest Inn in Austin for the State
Convention this past week.
The opening session on Friday was
presented by Students of Texas State^School
of D^af. It was very impressive and. en-
joyed by all Chapters. Victor L. Arnold of
the University of Texas spoke on “Avenues
and Challenges of Year 2000.” The second
general sessions gueat speaker was Billie
Scott of Austin. She spoke on “America, I
Love-You." It really made one appreciate
our beautiful country.
On Saturday. Terry Shaw of Austin
made a speech of “Nutrition Comes to
Life." The business was then conducted
with Lindel Hand of Chico, Texas Area IV
being elected president of the State YHT.
There were seven, members from the
Cleveland Chapter that attended, Judy
Starkey and Debbie Barfield served as
voting delegates, Pam Garland. Glinda
Hawthorne, Lee Greening, Karen Haw-
thorne and Pat Holder local advisdr Pat
also won one of the many door prizes given

Splendora High School is
proud to announce that Keri
Ross, a 1982 graduate has been
named a scholarship winner for
the U.S. Achievement Academy.
Ross was one of 10 winners, and
is the only winner from Texas.
She was nominated for the
award through the journalism
program by her journalism
teacher, Nanty Crewe.
Ross was selected from
thousands of applicants for the
scholarship. She first made the
top five percent from her initial
application She was then asked
to fill out other forms and write a
short essay. From that, 10 na-
tional winners were selected,
Ross is currently a fresh-
man at Stephen F. Austin State
University, majoring in Com-
munications. She is the daugh-
ter of Dick and Pat Ross of
Splendora.
