Alegria said. “I didn’t think it would

just the motivation to win and have

OBT appeared to have the game in

‘Old’ guys defeat ‘Young
Guns’ in Turkey Bowl
Broncos’ season comes to
an end with 35-21 loss
It was quarterback Brandon Robinson capping off
the drive with a one-yard sneak to make it 7-0.
The Broncos offense then took the field and on
their third play from scrimmage they committed a
turnover as Cody Green was intercepted by
Michael Ray who returned it 16 yards to the
Bronco 37-yard line.
Seven plays later and at the Bronco one yard
line it was RobinsonAvho lunged forward tq try
and sneak it in again. He was hit by a herd of
Dayton defenders and fumbled the ball into the
hands of the Broncos’ John Gable. After the offi-
cials conferred, they ruled that Robinson had

BAYTOWN — As shadows began

Johnny Rios’s interception set the
table for Alex Alegria who threw the
game-winning touchdown to Ronnie
Pantoja to give the OBT a 12 to 11
1/2 win over the Young Guns.

Mavericks get big
road win in SA
SAN ANTONIO (AP) —
Dirk Nowitzki scored 31
points, 14 in the fourth quar-
ter, to lead the Dallas
Mavericks to a 95-92 victory
over the San Antonio Spurs on
Friday night.
Jason Terry had 14 points
and 10 assists, Josh Howard
added 12 points in his return
to the lineup, and Erick
Dampier contributed 11.
Tim Duncan made three free
throws with 12 seconds left to
bring the Spurs within one, but
two from the line by Nowitzki
and last-second misses by
Robert Horry and Michael
Finley sent the Spurs to their
third home loss of the season.
AUSTIN — Stephen
McGee had taken so many
hard hits, he was throwing
up. But yard by yard,
McGee and the Texas
A&M Aggies were pound-
ing out six years of frustra-
tion in their rivalry with
Texas.
With a stingy defense
and two long scoring dri-
ves in the first and fourth
quarters, the Aggies finally
got past the Longhorns
with a 12-7 victory Friday
that they hope signals their
return to prominence in the
Big 12.
McGee, battered by the
heat and the beating he
was taking while running
the option, punched in the
winning touchdown with
an 8-yard run with 2:32 to
play.
“I looked those guys in
the eye,” in the huddle,
McGee said. “And if I
can’t do it, I don’t expect
them to do it.”
The Aggies churned out
244 yards on the ground
against the nation’s top
rush defense. They
snapped a six-game losing
streak to the Longhorns
and won in Austin for the
first time since 1994.
“People have said this
rivalry was dead,” said
Aggie offensive lineman
Kirk Elder. “It feels great
to get it going again.”
The Longhorns struggled
with only 230 total yards
and quarterback Colt
McCoy was intercepted
The Broncos played a lot better in the second half
but it was too late as the Stingarees left Stallworth
Stadium with a 35-21 victory.
Even though the Broncos season comes to an
end at 9-3 it was another successful for season for
head coach Jerry Stewart and his team as they
captured their seventh district championship in 11
years and finished District 22-4A unbeaten.
This mglu though belonged to Twuis Cny.sand
they did what the Broncos knew they were going
to do — run the football. They ran the ball, and
then some, to the tune of 358 yards on the night,
Speedster Jarvis Carraway was at the head of the
attack with 218 yards on 24 carries.
Texas City (9-3) took the opening kickoff and
marched 80 yards on 11 plays to grab a 7-0 lead.
HOUSTON — The Houston Astros,
the NL’s worst hitting team, signed out-
fielder Carlos Lee and
right-hander Woody
Williams on Friday,
bolstering its offense
and a pitching staff
that could be without
Roger Clemens and
Andy Pettitte.
Lee, a two-time All-
Star left fielder who
played with Texas and
Milwaukee last season, signed a six-
year, $100 million deal, the largest
contract in Astros history. Last season
was Lee’s fifth straight with at least 30
home runs and 99 RBIs.
“I won’t disappoint you,” said the
30-year-old Lee, whose contract
includes a no-trade clause for the first
four years. “Let’s go for the champi-
onship.”
Adding Lee will give the Astros
another power threat besides All-Star
first baseman Lance Berkman, who
had 45 home runs and 136 RBIs and
finished third in NL MVP voting
behind Philadelphia’s Ryan Howard
and St. Louis’ Albert Pujols.
Astros manager Phil Gamer, who
said Houston will be a better team with
Lee in the heart of the order, said the
deals show Houston owner Drayton
McLane Jr. is “stepping up in a big
way.”
“We feel like these are two big ques-
tions that have been answered for us,”
Gamer said.
Houston was last in the NL m bat-
ting average at .255 and languished out
of the pennant race until a late-season
run that almost overtook World Series
champion St. Louis.
Lee hit 28 homers in 102 games for
