Question: Help Guru! 1 just
installed Verizon DSL and I
want to use EVI e-mail. What
do I type in for incoming and
outgoing e-mail to make this
work?
Answer: Generally speaking
all outgoing e-mail should go
through the current ISP. The
reason is the majority of ISP’s
turn off mail relay unless you
are connected to their physical
network. It helps keep spam e-
mail down.
To receive e-mail you will
need to set up your incoming e-
mail server as mail.evl.net and
put in your EVl.net logon
■ information. To send e-mail,
you will need to set your outgo-
ing mail server as outgoing, ver-
izon.net
Depending on how your cur-
rent ISP has it set up, you may
need to put a check under the
“My Outgoing Server Requires
Logon” option. You would put . :
in Verizon’s logon information
in this example. The issue is
that most ISP's want to verify
that you are really one of their
customers before accepting out-
going e-mail from you, If they;
didn’t do this, anyone (specifi-
cally spammers) can send out-
;■ going e-mail to them and their
f severs would have to send it.
I ISP’s verify that you are one
of their customers by either
checking to see if you are phys-
ically connected to their local
network (which in this case you
won’t be on EVl’s. you will be
' on Verizon’s). Or. they verify it
by making you log onto their
outgoing mail server. If you
I' really get stuck contacting your
ISP and explaining the situation
is always best While they
| know their own settings better
I than anyone else, sometimes
I they can help you with other
| major ISP’s as well.
I It can be confusing with all
II these incoming addresses and
outgoing addresses. Just
remember that your mail client
(for example Outlook Express)
needs to know where to get
your e-mail from and also
where to send it to.
I always suggest getting a
Yahoo, G-Mail, or equivalent
address. These are independent
from your ISP so no matter
whom your ISP is. your e-mail
address will always stay the
same. If you decide to change
your ISP, you will lose your e-
mail address you get from
them. Another benefit from a.
Yahoo or G-Mail address is that
your e-mail will be web-based.
So, you don’t need a client on
the computer to check your e-
mail. You can just browse to
mail.yahoo.com or
mail.google.com and all your e-.
mail will be there. It’s also very
handy if your computer crashes.
Since nothing stays on your
actual computer, you won’t lose
anything.

O’Hara will play Babe to
Connlck’s Sid in revival
NEW YORK — Harry Connick Jr.
has found his Babe.
Kelli O’Hara will play Babe
Williams to Connick’s Sid Sorokin in
the upcoming Broadway revival of
“The Pajama Game.”
The Roundabout Theatre Company
production of one of the biggest
musical hits of the 1950s begins pre-
view performances Jan. 19 and
opens Feb. 23.
O'Hara now stars as the troubled
daughter in the Tony-winning musi-
cal “The Light in the Piazza.” She
also appeared on Broadway in musi-
cals such as “Sweet Smell of
Success,” “Dracula” and the '
Roundabout revival of “Follies.”
“The Pajama Game,” which has a
score by Richard Adler and Jerry
Ross, tells the story of labor unrest
in an Iowa pajama factory and the
romantic involvement between Sid,
the plant supervisor (the role
Connick will play), and Babe, a
union activist.
The production will be directed
and choreographed by Kathleen
Marshall, who recently directed the
Broadway revival of “Wonderful
Town.”
The production is scheduled for a
20-week run, ending June 11.
