in Vietnam, writing, serving
as editor-in-chief of multiple
publications, and undergoing
television projects like Golden

Local celebrity visits
Baytown Museum
Wanda Mitchell got a sur-
prise call last week. The
Baytown Historical Museum
director was at home when
she picked up her phone and
heard a celebrity on the other
end of the line.
It was William Broyles Jr.,
and he wanted a favor.
“He was in town and he
brought the kids to the muse-
um,” Mitchell said. “He said
he Wanted them to see where
he grew up.”
Museum docent Bob
Maeser took Broyles and his
group (which included his
four children) around the
museum. But Broyles, with
his Bachelor’s Degree in
History from Rice University,
could have led the tour him-
self if he wanted to.
He knows quite a bit about
Baytown’s history. He did
grow up here, after all.
