The Baytown Sun
Alex Joe. formerly of Crosby. McNair
and Baytown died at the age of 85 at his
home in the City of Iowa Colony. Texas.
I was personally told by his wife. Mrs.

peacefully in her arms on Wednesday,

Alex was bom July I. 1931 in Lebeau.
Louisiana, to the late Clay and Christine

last 19 years.
He attended the Immaculate Concep-

and enjoying the outdoors with family
and friend in the small community of
Lebeau.
When Alex moved to Texas, he was
employed by the Rohm & Hass Chemi-

43 years of sen ice.
Alex was a devoted husband and fa-

any cost. He was truly deverted to those
who were in his circle of friends He was
well respected by his co-workers at the
plant because of the way he lived his life
and treated others He was a very private,
easy-going person and had selective
friends. He was one of those individual
w ho ref use to put up w uh nonsense, no
matter who you were He was someone
who respected everyone and at the same
time demanded that you show him the re-
spect he truly deserved. If he didn't like

» I have personally
known Mr. Alex Joe for
many years. He worked
with my father and two
of my uncles at the
Rohm & Haas Chemical
Plant. 1 seldom saw him
after he moved out of McNair, howev-

him. mostly at a funeral, he always took
the time to talk to me and others he knew
Alex love music and played the fiddle
in a Zydeco Band where they would play
all over the area.
Alex is preceded in death by his par-
ents, Clay and Christine Joe; along with
five sisters and four brothers.

Barbara Ann Brinac-Joe for 58 years and
to that union they have one daughter,

WASHINGTON IAP)
— Susan Rice. Barack
Obama's national securi-
ty adviser and the latest
target for Donald Trump's
embattled defenders,
firmly denied on Tuesday
that she or other Obama
officials used secret intel-
ligence reports to spy on
Trump associates for po-
litical purposes.
“Absolutely false.” Rice
declared.
The White House has
seized on the idea that
the Obama administration
improperly surveilled the
Republican during and af-
ter the November election
— an accusation Demo-
crats say is just another
red herring thrown out to
distract attention from in-
vestigations of Russian in-
terference in the campaign

Presidential spokesman
Sean Spicer cast RiceN
handling of intelligence
in the waning days of
Obama's term as suspi-
cious. although he did not
detail what he found to be
inappropriate.
“The more we find out
about this, the more we
learn there was something
there." Spicer said.

of l rump associates who
surfaced in intelligence
reports she was regularly
briefed on. Rice's official
role would have given her
the ability to make those

Rice, in an interview
with MSNBC, acknowl-
edged that she sometimes
asked for the names of
Americans referenced in
reports. She would not say
whether she saw intelli-

associates or whether she
asked for their identities,
though she did say that
reports related to Rus-

Rice denies using intel to
spy on Trump advisers
The U.S. official said
Rice’s Trump-related re-
quests were discovered as
part of a National Securi-
ty C ouncil review of the
government's policy on
“unmasking” — the intel-
ligence community's term
for revealing Americans'
identities that would oth-
erwise be hidden in clas-
sified reports. The review
was prompted by a belief
that there were inefficien-
cies in the current proce-
dures and concerns over a
policy change made in the
closing days of the Obama
administration.
In January, the Justice
Department and intelli-
gence officials agreed on
new rules giving more
U.S. agencies access to
raw information picked
up abroad by the National
Security Agency. Priva-
cy advocates have raised
concerns that the new
rules — which are yet to
be fully implemented.
The unmasking review
was led by Ezra Co-
hen-Warnick. the NSC's

ligence. Cohen-Watnick
