The City of Baytown’s
Health Department was in

and provided most volun-

one of the event’s five sites
with a free Trash-Off t-

Trash-Off volunteers
stopped cleaning up at
about 2 p.m. and had a

The Health Department
said that volunteers filled
34 containers (30 to 40

38. Will the new ele-
mentary already sched-
uled to be built be
Pumphrey?
There is no new elemen-
tary school to be built in the
near future. The 2005 Bond
Program included the pur-
chase and design for an ele-
mentary school. However,
the site chosen for that
school in late 2005 is on
state Highway 146 just
north of the Cedar Bayou
Bridge. There are no bond
funds available for another
new elementary school out
of the 2005 Bond program.
39. If this decision was
just made last night, why
was security scheduled
two weeks ago?
Planning ahead for extra
security before a public
meeting is standard operat-
ing procedure. While the
decision was made on
March 30, the Board had
been discussing the matter
with their legal counsel for
at least two months.
Security was advised that
Carmona said in the
report. “The science is
clear: Second-hand
smoke is not a mere
annoyance, but a serious
health hazard that causes
premature death and dis-
ease in children and non-
smoking adults.”
However, supporters of
the proposition claim the
coalition is trying to
impose its beliefs on oth-
ers.
