I he City of Baytown says that
City Councilman David McCart-
ney’s trailer park on North Alex-
ander Drive is now in complete
compliance with city regulations.
Some had complained that
the trailer park was an eyesore
with dilapidated mobile homes
in bad condition, with some with
wooden panels for walls. In ad-
dition. some said it was a haven
for criminal activity. McCartney
has said he has owned the park
since 2001. However, he has not
operated the park with a pennit
at least since 2013.
Baytown spokeswoman Ra-
chel Philo said the property is
currently in compliance, mean-
ing that licensing is no longer
required.
“So far, nine structures have
been removed/demolished by the

Snow Day on Jan. 7.
When the rink first opened last
year, there were also weather issues
with warm air and rainy days clos-
ing the rink at certain times.

McCartney has also stated
that he has interested parties
who want to purchase half of the
trailer park property. Although
McCartney is involved in a con-
fidentiality agreement and could
not say who it was, Philo has
said it is for a 10,000-square-foot
dollar store.
“Il is in process in Planning
and Development Department to
get a permit,” McCartney said,
without naming who was inter-
ested. “That’s what is going on .”

There had also been health de-

grass/weeds and rubbish on the
entire property. At an arraign-

paid a w indow fine of S247.
Philo also said that the previ-

health department on the proper-

on Sept. 23.
“At this time, there are no ac-

“There is nothing is wrong with
the ice rink,” said Baytown spokes-
woman Rachel Philo. “The weather
has been too hot and the ice won't
stay frozen. I he only issue we
have had with the ice rink is the re-
cord-breaking warm temperatures
we've had in December.”
The rink has been closed a few
times due to the warm weather or
has delayed its opening on certain
days.
Texas weather is known for not
being conducive for ice-skating.
However, Baytown’s favorite
place for skating enthusiasts has
been the ice rink at Town Square on
Texas Avenue.
But the unusually warm weath-
er that has permeated the area has
been winning the fight and the ice
in the rink has been melting. This
is preventing people from enjoy-

Search ongoing
after helicopter
crashes in bay
LA PORTE (AP) Coast Guard divers are
searching the waters just off the shoreline of
northern Galveston Bay in Texas after witnesses
say a military helicopter broke up and crashed.
Coast Guard Petty Officer 1st ( lass Andrew
Kendrick says the Apache helicopter based at
nearby Ellington Field was carry ing two people.
Witnesses told Houston television stations the
aircraft was flying unusually low Wednesday af-
ternoon and broke apart in the air.
Debris was reported scattered over a section
of the bay along with an oil slick. Divers have
been in the w ater where the wheels of the chop-
per poked above the surface about 25 yards from
shore and the vacant cruise ship terminal near La
Porte.
The scene is about 25 miles southeast of down-
town Houston.
