member of the Ropes FFA, showed the Reserve Grand Champ, a
Medium Wool lamb, during the Lamb Show last week. The seventh-
grade student has been showing stock since he was in third grade. His
animal earned a $1,300 premium at Saturday's sale. He is the son of

by Shelby Hicklen, a Ropes 4-H
member. Her parents are Thomas
and DeLinda Hicklen
Shelby’s steer commanded a
premium of $2,000 that was
submitted by Buster’s Gin and
City Bank
This year’s Grand Champion
Lamb, a Medium Wool, was
shown by Morgan Miller, the
daughter of Alan Miller.
Miss Miller, a Ropes FFA
ninth-grader, has been showing
stock for five years. She also
showed the Grand Champion last
year.
Her animal earned a
premium of $1,600. It was
entered by City Bank, Ropes
Fanners Co-op Gin and the
Ampride store.
The Reserve Champion
Lamb, also a Medium Wool, was
shown by Brennen Johnson, the
son of Brad and Jane Johnson.
Johnson, a seventh-grade
Ropes FFA student, earned a
$1,300 premium that was made
by Buster’s Gin and Ropes
Farmers Co-op.
Levelland FFA member
Ryan Phelan showed the Grand
Champion Banow, a Cross, this
year. He is the son of Pat and
Cara Phelan.
Phelan’s hog earned a $ 1,600
premium from the Agri-Business
Premium Association.
Smyer FFA student Brittany
Henley, the daughter of James
Henlry, had the Reserve Grand
Champion.
Her hog, a Cross, earned a
premium of $1,200 from the
Smyer Community and the
Citizens-Shallowater Co-op Gin.
Kelton Flowers, a 4-H
student, earned a $900 premium
from the Needmore Gin and City
Bank of Lubbock for his breed
champion barrow.
Whitharral FFA member
Carey Reding netted a premium
of $1,600 from Sundown State
Bank and United Cotton Growers
for her breed champion barrow.
Barrett Carlisle, a 4-H’er,
earned a $600 premium from
Willie Boogers and United
Supermarket for his breed
champion lamb.
Ariana Methvm, a Levelland
FFA youngster, commanded a
$1,400 premium for her breed
The 57* annual Hockley
County Junior Livestock Show
and Sale ended Saturday when
160 animals made the sale.
This year’s sale earned
scores of local FFA and 4-H stu-
dents premiums that tallied
$136,675.
Last year, 170 animals that
made the sale gamerad county
youngsters premiums which
totaled $127,225.
The Grand Champion Steer
was shown by Anton 4-H student
Lee Roy Lawrence, the son of
Bruce and Paula Lawrence.
Lawrence’s animal, an
Exotic Cross, earned a premium
of $2,300 that was bid by the
Levelland Premium Association.

Paxton Pugh earned a $600
premium for his breed champion
barrow. Among the buyers for the
animal were Bank One, Pate,
Downs & Waide and Smith South
Plains.
Amy Synatschk, a 4-H
student, received a premium for
$750 from the Anton Community
for her breed champion steer.
Taylor Hicklen, a 4-H
member, earned a $1,500
premium from City Bank of
Lubbock and other buyers for his
reserve breed champion steer.
Ropes FFA student Mason
Miller earned a $600 premium for
his reserve breed champion lamb
from City Bank, Ropes Farmer's
Co-op and Ampride.

year in a row during last week’s Heifer Show. The 1 llh-grade student
has been a top-notch exhibitor over the years. He also won the Heifer
Showmanship buckle. He is the son of Bruce and Paula Lawrence.
