DR. PHILIP L. PRICE OPTOMETRIST BOX 556 STEPHENVnia, TEAs February 19,1953 honorable Truett Latimer Capitol Station Austin,Texas Dear Mr. Latimer: I greatly appreciated receiving your letter and especially so since I know you are as busy as you are at the present time. To me it shows you are very interested in doing the right thing for the public welfare of the citizens of Texas. In order to make this letter as short as possible 1 would just like to leave one thought with you. The whole concept of this issue of house Bill No. 5 revolves around one thing. iamely, whether or not in your heart you believe the Practice of Optometry to be a Professional service. Your answer to that question will determine how you vote on House Bill No. 5. We just cant be considered sellers of merchandise when conservitive estimates show eighty per-cent of the people come to us first when they have visual problems. The practice of Optometry is a Public trust and the welfare of our patients must be uppermost in our minds at all times. That thought cant prevail if I as an Optometrist were trying to convince someone that I h ad some new frames that would look prettier on their face. Basically,it is not as important what a Layman thinks of me as it is what one of my fellow Optometrists thinks. He knows how I am conducting myself. Wlho could know better what is best for the visual welfare of the public than someone in the Profes sion. Surely the cream of the cr op in Optometry is backing this bill one hundred per-Cent. Enclose please find a reprint from a recent issue of the Red Book. This can possibly explain better than I can some of the things I am trying to say. xith kindest regards I remain, Very Sincerely yours PY l1'p PrieT .D. Stephenffille,Texas
