CROW FLAT
MWlH ----
Refreshingly cool this early Monday morning, few clouds float-
ing around, give us hope for showers. We’ve had nice spring
days this past week, and have been enjoying them.
Ruby Lewis came by for a short visit with us Sunday afternoon,
on her way home from Dell City. She was feeling better from
last week’s "doings" and some rested.
Monday 23rd, Jane Schafer, Nora Lea Lewis, Elaine and Barb-
ara Dodge went over to the Cienega School building and
swept the whole thing out-then that afternoon Nora Lea and I
went back and did some more dusting and arranging, getting
ready for the SW Cattle Growers Association meeting. Wed-
nesday we, the Crow Flat CowBelles cooked and Thursday we
were ready with plenty of hot coffee when the first of the group
arrived at 8:30 AM. County Agent Gene Thornton , Otero County
Agricultural Agent, brought out Dn Jerry Schickendanz, Exten-
sion Range Management and RITL Coordinator; Dn, Larry Foster,
Extension Beef Cattle Specialist; Dn Kirk McDaniel, Brush
Control Specialist and Dn Chris Ellison, Extension Range Man-,
agement Specialist-all from NMSU, Las Cruces, NM-and all of
whom gave interesting discussions on Range Inventory with the
program lastiig from 9:30 to 12:30. They recessed for the noon
meal»then made a field trip in the afternoon , returning about
3:45 PM for refreshments of coffee and sweets. There were be-
tween 55 ancTBCFpresent.

Last Monday about dark, Becky Parker , her son, Joe Parker and
wife, and Cindy Hill and little Joe stopped by the W*s, looking
for tools to fix a flat. Ted was here and it didn’t take them
all long to repair the tire, but in the meantime we had a nice
visit, and enjoyed having them.
Carole Meek spent Tuesday and Thursday nights out with us.
She surely seems to enjoy the group of cute Kindergartners
she teaches each day.

Our best wishes and prayers for Father Casey as he goes to the
hospital today.

From the reports we get
from our folks down in the
hill country the blue bon-
nets and other flowers are
really putting on a show of
colors now, also.

Charlie Hepler of Carlsbad has, out of a group of 27 boys in Ag»
Classes of New Mexico, won State Championship in State Weld-
ing class, with the accolade of being the best boy welder ever
judged in the State. He is now eligible to take part in the
National Contest. He already has a steel building out on the
farm and is setting up his own welding shop, He is a 1979 grad-
uate, and we wish him the very best in the future and our con-
gratulations.
Jo Edwards of Artesia and daughter Jill went to San Angelo
last week-end for Jill to take part in the gymnastic events
Saturday. We are anxious to hear about it.

Jane and Lisa Latimer brought out a friend, Mrs. Valeet Shep-
herd, when they came out late Saturday from Carlsbad for a
week-end with the Warrens. We really enjoyed the treat as
they haven’t been out since Christmas, and were sorry to see
them leave soon after our noon meal Sunday. Lisa brought
her "re-built" graduation robe and cap and we took some
pictures. We beg your best wishes and prayers as she goes
to Houston for tests May 10th.

Ted came across the field where he is watering and spent a
short visit with us. He brought "Bud" along for Lisa to get
acquainted with. He seems to have recovered from the
rattle-snake bite •

We want to extend our "Get Well Wishes" to all those I’ve
missed sending cards to, or calls, and wish everyone a
speedy recovery. ■—

Have been having some interesting correspondence exchanges
with Shirley Hadsell, which will perhaps result in our having
her out for a CowBelle meeting in the near future. Her new
job sounds interesting, that of being on the "energy conser-
vation program." We will let you know when.
