commencement exercises Friday
(May 10) at South Plains Col-
lege
Daniel received an associate
of arts degree in education
during the ceremonies.
• "It was a real surprise; I feel
very honored," said Daniel
following the announcement of
her name by Lee Weldon Step-
henson, who read the list of
graduates. "I treasure the fellow-
ship, the friends and the teachers
al South Plains College. I wish
it were a four-year school."
"The Vera Sue Spencer
Award for Outstanding Achieve-
ment goes to an outstanding
woman student who has been of
tremendous support to the
students and to the college as a
whole," said Dr. Gary McDaniel,
SPC president. The award was
established by Dr. and Mrs.
Thomas M. Spencer in memory
of their daughter. Vera Sue.
Spencer, now deceased,
SPC’s first president.
Daniel, the daughter
Dewayne and Belva Daniel,
an SPC former student, plans to
transfer to Texas Tech University
as an elementary education
major. She would like to teach
on the elementary level then
serve as an elementary school
