Girls win swim title
By BOB KELSO
For the first time in
the history of the
school, the J. Frank
Dobie girl swimmers
won the highly coveted
Pasadena Independent
School District cham-
pionship.
In what can be con-
sidered a highlight of
the year, the Dobie girls
clearly outclassed the
defending champion,
Sam Rayburn.
The Longhorn boys
took second place be-
hind Rayburn.
Both Dobie girls re-
lays took first places;
the medley relay con-
sists of: Donna Bruys-
schasrd, Bernadette
Steely, Candy Cotton
and Tonya DeVries.
The margin of victory
was three-tenths of a
second.
The Longhorn girls
dominated the individ-
ualmedlev with Christi
Richmond, a senior,
winning the event.
Bernadette Steely
was third and promis-
ing young freshman
Genny Bruysschard
fourth.
The turning point of
the meet was the 100
yard backstroke with
Donna and Genny
Bruysschard and Rich-
mond taking 1, 2, 3
respectively.
In distance events,
seniors Lisa Bashara
and Kim Ward added
points to the Dobie total
by stroking to third and
fourth place finishes
respectively.
