different Christmas-themed crafts
with the help of volunteers. Local
businesses donated toys and ginger-
bread materials. The children were
also read Christmas stories by Rod
Henry, Temple Chamber president,
and Brig. Gen. Michael Dillard,
commanding general, 310th SC(E),
before Santa Claus arrived.
Amanda Suprobo, the spouse
deployed Army captain, was grate-
ful she could bring her children to
the event.
“When the Army provides an
outlet for the kids to get together
and be around people who under-
stand, even without them saying, ‘I
understand your dad’s gone, I miss
mine too,’ it’s a different kind of
bond,” Suprobo said.
The City of Temple, is the 13th
SC(E)’s partner city near Fort
Hood. The community supports
the Family members of deployed
Soldiers with various events, such
as Operation Winter Wonderland.
Since the 13th SC(E) is currently
deployed, the 310th SC(E), fulfills
the mission of the 13th SC(E) on
Fort Hood and also participates
with and supports the community
partnerships.

TEMPLE — The Christmas holi-
day is quickly approaching for Fort
Hood Soldiers and their Families.
With that in mind, the Temple
Chamber of Commerce joined
together to try and make sure Fami-
lies of deployed Soldiers from Fort
Hood would not go without, hold-
ing “Operation Winter Wonder-
land” Saturday.
Winter Wonderland is an event
designed to provide the spouses and
children of deployed service mem-
bers the opportunity to interact
with each other while their Soldiers
are away.
“The concept of it was to provide
moms or dads, whichever Family
member is not deployed, a chance
to be a parent and do crafts and
what not, rather than being the
organizer,” said Vicky Wells, Fam-
ily Readiness Support Assistant,
4th Sustainment Brigade, 13th
Sustainment Command (Expedi-
tionary). “They actually got to go
around and do activities with the
kids instead of always being the
behind-the-scenes person.”
