Smith visited her daughter, Mrs.
Mary Warlord of Corpus Christi,
on Thursday. The daughter is
leaving for Alaska.
Jackie and Cynthia Schulze of
Weslaco and Patton King of
Houston are visiting their grand-
parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Ed-
mondson. Cynthia attended the
Zephyr encampment last week

Mrs. Sid Ferrell is in a hos-
pital in Beeville.
Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Chase and
Dannie of St. Petersburg, Fla.,
and Mr. and Mrs. Andy Robert-
son, Laurie, Brent and Beth are
visiting their parents, Mr. and
Mrs. J.D. Roach. They will be
here until July 4.
Mrs. W.S. Highsmith, mother
of Mrs. Thomas Porter, has re-
turned home after spending a
week with the Porters. Miss El-
len Porter, who attends Texas
Tech in Lubbock, spent the
week-end with her parents, the
Thomas Porters.

Rev. Bob Hairston
Resigns Position
Effective July 6
The Rev. Bob Hairston, pastor
of the First Baptist Church ten-
dered his resignation after ser-
vices Sunday, night, effective on
July 6.-.
Rev. Hairston and his family
came to Mathis from Kingsland
in 1963, and he served the church
here for six years and three
months.
During his tenure here, the
new parsonage was built, the
Mission Bautista was moved and
rebuilt. The education building
was redtcoratel and the sanc-
tuary remodeled.
Besides his pastorial duties
Rev. Hairston was recently
elected to>the job of moderator
of the Blanco Association, from
which he will have to resign.
He served on Camp Zephyr
board of trustees for several
years, and was Associational
Vacation Bible Leader. He was
chairman of the Associational
evangelism committee that set
up formative plans of the Cru-
sade of Americas. He was chair-
man of associational missions
committee for one year.
He served on various com-
mittees, such as Zephyr expan-
sion program committee, South
Texas Youth Congress Commis-
sion and Bible Teacher at South
Texas Youth Congress for
years.
Rev. and Mrs. Hairston
family will move to their
field at Cuero on July 9.....
Rev. Hairston says that
this is a good town with good
people and a bright future, and
it is with regret that they will
be leaving,....

Star representatives. These
young men will compose the
team which will represent the
Mathis league m the upcoming
playoffs.
The first playoff game is sche-
duled against either Odem or
Sinton, depending upon which
team wins during first round
competiton.
All Star Team members are
Hall Winsauer, David Miles, Jer-
ry Dobie, Ronnie Sharpe, Alias
Gonzales and Johnny Garcia of
the Yankees; Bruce Krietch, Joe
Benavides, Jeff Breem, Dossie
Paterson, and Joe Aguilar of the
Dodgers; Lionel Morin of the
Braves; and Terry Hennig and
Rene Soto of the Athletics.
Alternates are Richard Tess-
naer and John Benavides of the
Dodgers, Norbert Garces of the
Braves; and Jessie Zambrano of
the Athletics.
Harold Winsauer of the Yan-
kees will be the manager and
Chon Zapata of the Dodgers will
be the coach

Mrs. Lillian Carmichael cele-
brated her 70th birthday on
Monday with a dinner. Out of
town guests were Mrs. Albert
Mueller, her sihter; Mr. & Mrs.
David Sledge and son, Michael,
her granddaughter and her only
great grandchild; Mr. and Mrs.
R. S. Steinmeyer and daughter
Becky, her daughter and Mrs.
Reginal Stearns of Corpus Chris-
ti, her granddaughter.
Mr. and Mrs. Edgar H. Eggert
Jr and Richard and Mark re-
turned Thursday from a three-
week trip to the weyt coast. On
their return they visited their
daughter and family, Dr. and
Mrs, Ted Dinkins and Anne
of Austin. They brought Anne
with them for a week’s visit
while her parents move to Hous-
ton where Dr. Dinkins will be
associated with a law firm.
Mrs. John Crouch has return-
ed from a visit with Mr. and
Mrs. Ben Crouch and Caren in
Carbondale, Ill., Ben is attend-
ing Southern Illinois University.
