Mrs. Harbert Byers1 who has
been a club member only a few
years said, “During winter
when I snuggle down at night
to sleep under my warm fea-
ther comfort, I am glad I be-
came a member of a H. D. club
because I probably would never
have learned how to make one
through any other way.”

The, answer given by fifteen
women, members of the Lane
II. D. Club to the
“What I Have Got Out of H.
D. Work” told an interesting
heart-warming story, a story
which covered a period of over
twenty-five years during which
time farming methods on the
farms in the’ U. S. A. have un-
dergone a radical change. These
changes have
changed farm
tremendously,
characters in
have taken advantage of the in-
formation dispensed through the
Extension Service have benefit-
ed in many ways.
The plot of the story could
be woven around these obvious
facts—-homes have become more
attractive inside and outside;
farm women have become bet-
ter groomed and acquired more
poise; home life has become
more interesting through less
work and more play; husbands
have been helped in many fi-
nancial ways other than their
wives working in the field;
women have obtained a liberal
education at home and have
practiced the things they have
learned. The story has no end.
It will continue to develop as
long as the characters, farm
women, have the desire to build
a richer, better, happier, more
interesting rural life for them-
selves and their families.
Quoting two of ■ the oldest
women who have belonged to
the Lane club ever since it’s
organization in the spring of
1924, who are mothers of sever-
al children and who have rear-
ed those children to take their
places in the world on the farm,
they said ■— Mrs. Eva Lacy-’
‘ ‘ The club has meant nearly as
mudh to me as the church. It
has been just that valuable to
the community also. Why we
would hardly ever visit each
other if we didn’t have a club!”
Mrs. John Hunter voiced prac-
tically the same thought and
enumerated the numerous
things which she had learned
