JUDGES ATTEND SEMINAR - Some 112 justices of the peace from Region 1
attended a 20-hour seminar March 4-7 in Austin conducted by the Texas
Justice Court Training Center headquartered at Southwest Texas State
University in San Marcos. The seminars are held in compliance with Article
5972, Section B, of the Texas Revised Civil Statutes. Topics covered include
justice court venue, defensive driving, forcible entry’ and detainer statutes,
license and weight laws and new game and fish laws. New legislation relating
to the justice court that was passed by the 69th State Legislature was also
reviewed. Attending were, left to right. Dennis F. Poppe of Weimar, Colorado
County, Precinct 3, Place 1; Mary Ordner of Frelsburg, Colorado County,
Precinct 5, Place 1; and W. A. Hefner of Garwood, Colorado County, Precinct
2. Place 1.

Timers Baseball Association
hold its 17th annual reunion Sunday.
April 13 in Schulenburg in the
American l-egion Hall, Wolters Pa-
rk. Registration starts at 1 p.m.,
rain or shine, and the business
session begins at 2:30 p.m., accord-
ing to Aubrey Voelkel, La Grange,
president of the association.
The meal will be served at 4 p.m.
at a cost of $4.00 per plate. Cash
reservations must be received by

morial service for those Hall of
Famers who passed away since last
year’s reunion; election of 1986

The 1985 champions of the two
leagues operating in this 25 county-
area will be awarded trophies;
namely, the New Ulm Firemen (Ray
Dungen, General Manager and Ran-
dy Reichardt, Field Manager), Aus-
tin County, of the South Central
Texas Amateur League; and the
Plum Yankees (Tom Supak. Mana-
ger), Fayette County of the Comm-
unity Baseball League.
The association honors not only
teams and players, but also mana-
gers. sponsors, umpires, scorekeep-
ers, fans and others, who have
contributed to sandlot and semi-pro
baseball in the past 80 years. Last
year 27 individuals were inducted,
bringing the grand total to 870 since
1970, when this unique association
was first organized.

The Annual Country Livin' Festi-
val in Bellville has turned into a
two-day affair centered around the
Texas Bluebonnet Season. This ye-
ar's event, hosted by the Bellville
Chamber of Conunerce will be April
12 and 13 at the City Park in
Bellville.
Some of the features will include
live entertainment by the 1869
Cowboys who perform in authentic
Texas western attire and the Ala-
bama Coushatta Indians who come
from the rservation in full costume
to perform.
Musical entertainment will be
provided by Alphenfest, a Bavarian
Troop; the Mariachies. an authentic
Mexican street band; a folkloric
group; doggers; and the country-
sounds of Spencer and Grady plus
Country Playboys.
Daniel Edwards and the Country-
Cruisin' will perform at the Fribay
night dance while the new contem-
porary country sound of Chance,
formerly Texas Pride will be featur-
ed at the big Saturday night dance
The Youth Rodeo Association is
holding 3-day competition while the
Bellville Historical Society will offer
bus tours of historical sites in town.
The Lite Fun Run starts the
weekend Saturday at 9 a.m., but
most festival activites will run from
10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days at the city
park in Bellville.

Vicky and Wendy, and Mr. and Mrs.
Melvin Draehn enjoyed supper Fri-
day night at Wilbert's Cafe in
Shelby . The occasion was Vicky's
thirteenth birthday. Visiting them
at their home on Friday night also
were Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Broz and
Mr. and Mrs. Allan Draehn, David
and Jason.
The previous Sunday. Vicky
Draehn and Kristy Kollinann en-
joyed skating at Silver Wings for her
birthday with Kristy spending Sun-
day night at her house
Mrs. Mercedes Jumper spent the
weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Billie
Schovajsa and girls.
Mrs. Pearl Macat. Mrs Mercedes

Two Plays
Twq plays will be presented this
weekend at the Winedale Historical
Center near Round Top in conjunc-
tion with the annual Winedale Spring
Festival and Texas Crafts Exhibi-
tion.
On Friday night beginning at 8
p.m., the University of Texas at
Austin Department of Germanic
languages will perform “Minna
Von Bamhelm", a five act comedy
by Gotthold E. Lessing.
It will be followed by German
singing and a reception.
On Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
the Chocolate Bayou Theater Co. of
Houston will perform "Gone To
Texas". This sesquicentennial cele-
bration brings to life the stories and
songs of the people who tamed the
Texas Frontier. Using the actual
words of the people who experienced
Texas in the 1880’s and who recorded
those impressions in their letters,
diaries, songs and lectures, the
company has woven together a
delightful performance suitable for
all ages to celebrate the 150th
birthday of Texas' independence.
