Peebles go to work with Mom
Meredith and Bethany Peebles,
students at Lindale Jr. High School
and Velma Penny Intermediate
School, respectively, participated
in the Social Security Region VI
Take Your Daughter to Work Day
in Dallas with their mother, Donna
Waters, on Thursday, April 28,
1994.
The purpose of the event is to
focus attention on careers by in-
volving the young women in the
daily work activities of their par-
ents or other relatives.
Meredith and Bethany served
as claims representatives with Ms.
Waters and left the day-long event
mothers and women make toward
their family's well-being. The girls
also discovered that Social Secu-
rity serves about 41 million ben-
eficiaries and pays out
approximately $23.5 billion in
benefits.
Meredith and Bethany learned
that working at Social Security is
a career in which people can help
others.
Both girls agreed the day was
fun, but they did not like getting
up at 4:45 a.m. to go to work.
Meredith and Bethany are also
the daughters of Leo Peebles, a
retired federal employee, and the
with a greater appreciation of the granddaughters of Mr. and Mrs.
effort and contribution working C.J. Waters, all of Lindale.
DeVasto’s Municipal Court
’boots’ parking violators
Tylers Municipal Court, the
Honorable Judge Diane DeVasto
presiding, has received and is ready
to implement the use of an immo-
bilization device boot to be used
for outstanding parking violations.
The boot will be utilized within
days.
A metal wheel block, autho-
rized by the Tyler City Council
last month, may be used this week
to immobilize vehicles cited for
flagrant parking violations.
To increase parking enforce-
ment capabilities, City Council
members voted unanimously last
month to purchase two boots for
$420 each and amend the city's
parking ordinance with the au-
thority to use them. The invest-
Court Administrator, said 8,651
parking tickets representing
$162,692 were unpaid since Au-
gust 1992, when the city forgave
outstanding tickets in a re-organi-
zation of the municipal court.
The boot will be directed at
repeat offenders.
ment is small compared to the
estimated $150,000 owed to the
city in outstanding parking cita-
tions.
While the boot is more cost
effective than towing and also
serves as a visual deterrent, it puts
teeth into an ordinance that has
been difficult to enforce.
At last month's council meet-
ing, Cam McCabe, Municipal
East Texas South Chapter or Financial Women International, an
organization of professional women in the financial services, donated the
book, Making the Most of Your Money by Jane Bryant Quinn to the
Lindale Library on April 29. Pictured here presenting the book are (L-
R) Sue Summerville and Jimmie Brewster. Recieving the book is Margaret
McKay. Judy Wheeler (not pictured) is also a member of this organization
and is the current treasurer.
Forest Trails of Texas Council of Camp Fire, Inc., announces registration

The past few weeks have given the residents of the Lindale ISD an opportunity to look
deep within each of the candidates. I have presented a very clear philosophy concerning
the issues that face our school system. A philosophy that is based upon openness, honesty,
wisdom and objectivity. It is a philosophy that presents a very clear vision for our future.
I believe the Lindale ISD should be guided not only by a vision which reflects the
progressive attitude of our community but also by a positive spirit with the capacity to
motivate. An attitude of criticism and negativity will destroy our district if it is allowed to
exist.
A cooperative working relationship between the school board and administration is
extremely important. I believe Mr. Williford is a man of proven character who has
benefited our community in a variety of ways. He has demonstrated positive leadership in
addressing the educational needs of the Lindale ISD.
If an alleged communication problem exists, I believe a positive and cooperative
attitude with a unified vision will provide a solution to that problem. I am convinced that,
if elected, I will have clear and constructive channels of communication with the
administration.
The May 7 election offers the residents of Lindale ISD an opportunity to cast a vote for
positive direction, objective decision making, fiscal responsibility, and a clear vision for
our future. This is my commitment to you, and I ask for your vote on Saturday, May 7.
