The First Christian Sunday s hool
has accepted the challenge of the
Durant Firs: Christian Sunday
school, and the quadrangular con-
test is now on. with Denton third
in the race and McKinney leading
with 22 ahead of Dvrant.
Durant had kept the attendance
records since .h? beginning of the
triangular contest between Denton,
M’Kinney and Lampasas, and en-
tered to count from the first, taking
second place as a good start. Mc-
Kinney has been ahead since the
first Sunday, though with a small
lead.

few days., Mrs- G. W. Townley, per-
haps the oldest person in Denton
county, died at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. W. H. Rucker, on
West Chestnut street, at 3 o’clock
Tuesday afternoon. While past 90
years of age, Mrs. Townley had been
in splendid health for the past sev-
eral years and her rather sudden
illness last Friday, caused from a
general breakdown was unexpected
to members of her family.
Mrs. Townley was 9o years, 6
months and 8 days old. A Georg-
gian by birth, she lived in that state
until 1845 when w<*h her family
•he moved to Missouri. There she
was married to Bert Watkins, who
died shortly after their removal to
Texas in 1846. Later 'n Texas, she
married John W. Townley, an ear-
ly settler. He died n 1899.
Mrs. Townley is survived by two
children, Mrs W. H. Rucker
Den to 6 and G. A. Townley of Au-
brey, with whom she made her home
part of the time.
The remains were shipped to Au-
brey on .He early train Wednesday
morning for interment there Wed-
nesday.

near Slidell, was in town Tuesday
and reported having thrashed a crop
of wheat that yielded 28 i-2 bush-
els per acre on a field of 40 acres.
