equipment, 13,695 for a sprioscan
and $15,800 for a portable X-ray.
The physicians noted that one
X-ray has to be available for or-
thopedic surgeons wanting to do
surgery in Nocona. Additionally,
the portable unit can be taken to the
emergency room, delivery room or
a room on a floor as needed —
augmenting the existing, non-
portable unit.
Also approved were lease-
purchase agreements for an
anesthesia machine ($44,399.60, 60
month pay out), a blood gas
analyzer ($13,500, 48 months), an
intensive care unit monitor
($14,625, 36 months), ventilator
60 months), fetal
monitor ($10,757.80, 36 months)
and infant warmer and bili light
($9,000, 60 months).
In a separate motion, the board
also instructed Mrs. Billings to
enter into lease-purchase
agreements on a Lifestate
defibulator for $9,081, $33,000 for
an ultrasound unit and not more
than $18,800 for an EKG monitor
and Holter monitor.
“Most of this equipment will pay
for itself," Dr. Paul Reynolds told
the board, adding that other equip-
ment, while not ‘paying for itself
would allow the hospital to offer ad-
ditional services which would help
recover the expenses — such as
ultrasound equipment being used
for abdominal tumors and gallblad-
der problems.

“So, you’ve got to make up the
money somewhere."
In the past three budget years,
the school board has elected to dip
into cash reserves to make up the
difference between the calculated
effective tax rate and the funds
needed to cover the increased costs
of utilities, supplies and mandated
pay raises.
This year, there are no cash
reserves to use for that purpose, so
the board is considering a budget
that trims expenses in some areas
and make up the remainder of the
difference in a tax increase of slight-
ly more than 3% above the CETR.

pointed board that approves or
disapproves all projects undertaken
by the Highway Department.
Cantrell could not say which site
would be selected out of the joint
meeting.
He did note that the Coutrney
site is approximately halfway bet-
ween the existing bridges at Ring-
gold and Gainesville as well as be-
ing halfway between the two con-
necting state highways on
Oklahoma’s side of the river.
The State Engineer-Director,
Robert Stoltzer, has approved the
accompanying cost of paving the
county road between Illinois Bend
and FM 2953 northeast of Lake
Nocona — but only for the Court-
ney crossing.
That expenditure of funds has
not been approved if the two states
opt for either the old Site 3 (north
from Illinois Bend to a point two
miles east of Courtney) or Site 4
(due east out of Illinois Bend to
Leon).

Escapee gets
45 year term
MONTAGUE — A six man, six
woman jury sentenced Stanley.
Vern Deltenre to 45 years in the
state prison following a jury trial ‘
that began Aug. 2.
Deltenre was accused to escaping
from the Montague County Jail on
Feb. 24 by successfully blocking the
closing of the bolt in his maximum
security cell, later triggering the
mechanism to open as jailer David
Fondren was making his hourly
check of other prisoners in the cell
block.
Deltenre was awaiting transfer to
the Texas Department of Correc-
tions to begin serving a 15 year
sentence for burglary when he
escaped.
He was not recaptured until
Mar. 24 when Conroe and Grimes
County officers arrested him in
Conroe.
Deltenre will serve the two sen-
tances concurrently (together)
rather than consecutively.
If he had been sentenced to con-
secutive terms in prison, he would
not have begun serving his escape
conviction until he had completed
his 15 year sentence for burglary (or
had been parolled).

You can have a
ladder accident
and never leave the ground
Ladder safety is more than avoiding falls. Ladders
conduct electricity, so they can also cause ac-
cidents around the power lines — before you ever
leave the ground.
For more Information
on power line safety,
call or visit your
local TNP office.
Aluminum and other metal
ladders are especially
good conductors of elec-
tricity, but you can be In-
jured by power lines
with a wooden one too.
To prevent such accidents, make sure you don't
snag a power line when you’re carrying a ladder
around the yard. Before you climb the ladder,
place it away from power
lines.
