News from the Hills
By Cleo Hagerla
Have never been told that 1 need-
ed to walk a mile a day. That
started last Monday. It’s surprising
to find out how many walkers are
out there in pairs. Have to walk
alone with my stick. First three days
were the bad ones as it's a steep hill
if you leave the lake road. Just a
hint to you that get so tired on the
inclines, just walk in reverse for
15-20 steps, then continue on —
much easier! Joan Upton is trying
it.
Dave and Audrey Basham spent
a few days in San Antonio last
week. They saw many sights like
the Alamo. River Walk and River-
side malls. The main event was the
Texas Folk Festival. Food from
around the world was on display
and for tasting, also.
Betty Bryant had a week’s visit
from her sister and brother-in-law,
Anne and Kenneth Cain, from
Naples, Fla.
The Home Extension Club held
its business meeting last Tuesday.
Plans were finalized for the Mon-
tague County Extension Clubs as

handiwork.
This event will take place at the
Nocona Hills Country Club Aug.
23 at 10:30 a.m. Bring a covered
dish and your best achievements of
the past year. No judging will take
place.
Each club will have five models
each in the fashion show wearing
their handmade clothing. Bring
your friends. The Nocona Hills
Volunteer Fire Dept, held its
regular business meeting last
Thursday at 7 p.m. Had a very
good attendance and looking
foreward to our next meeting on
Aug. 25. It is a social event just
getacquainted with your neighbors.
7 p.m. for time, place Fire Hall. Br-
ing a covered dish for your en-
trance. Entertaining will be done by

Called the gate this morning and
got a big surprise Joan Upton is
back at work after having surgery
and then getting well again. We are
all happy.
Clinton Martin had surgery last
week in Muenster. He is improved
at this time. Wishing you the best
“Red.”
Alma Carlisle has been visiting
with her three sisters in Texas. One

The statement above shows the percentage increase the proposed rate
represents over the .45310 tax rate that the unit published on August 11,
1988. The following table compares taxes on an average home in this taxing
unit last year to taxes proposed on the average home this year. Again, your
individual taxes may be higher or lower, depending on the taxable value of
your property.
This Year

The City of Nocona will hold a public hearing on a proposal to increase
total tax revenues from properties on the tax roll in 1988 by 5.9 percent.
Your individual taxes may increase or decrease, depending on the change
in the taxable value of your property in relation to the change in the taxable
value of all other property.
The public hearing will be held on August 25,1988, 7:00 p.m. at City Coun-
cil Room, 101 Cooke St.
Comparing tax rates without adjusting for changes in property value, the
tax rate would increase by $ .03 per $100 of taxable value or 6.6 percent
compared to last year’s tax rate. These tax rate figures are not adjusted for
changes in the taxable value of property.

We all love tradition but once in
a while it is nice to break away and
get out of the same old rut. This is
just what we did the 6th of August
at our club when Goldia and Ber- '
nard Ritchie were host and hostess
for our usual pot luck supper. Only
instead of pot luck we had a
watermelon feast. And festive it i
was. We had quite a turn out, lots
of melon and cantaloupe.
Ten of our guests were children;
nothing brightens a place like the
chatter of children. We old cronies
loved every minute of it.
We want to welcome Chris and
Larry Adams into our club. Hope
to see you at most of our functions.
We also want to thank Mr. and
Mrs. Larry Baker for contribution
they turned into Betty Glass. If you
folks think Betty and Leonard are
good people, you should come on
over across the street and meet the
rest of us. You just might like us all
and we know we would love to have
you.
It was good to see everyone who
came out in the heat, and missed
the few of our usuals who didn't
make it. Hope to see you next
month. B and Hazel Harmon will
host the dinner, and after dinner we
plan to play bingo so bring your
gifts.
Our out of town guests for melon
were: Barbara and Jared Vaughan,
Debera and Summer Vandirtruck
of Witchita Falls, Laurie and
Danille Vizard of Riverside, CA,
Brooke Blankenship of Irving.
Heather, Heidi,and Hally Golden
of Arlington.
Our members who attended
were: B and Hazel Harmon, Edgar
and Elsie Richardson, Warren and
Angie Smith, Ray and Marge
Roberson, Bud and Rajean
Blankenship, Bob and Bernie
Clark, Mac and Clara McKinney,
Romie and John Puks, Hack and
Helen Glass, Agnes Sneed, Chris
and Ashley Adams, Kelly and Kim
Ditmore and our host and hostess.
Thank you Goldia and Bernard for
a job well done.
Song time set
There will be a gospel singing at
Bibleway Mission Church in
Nocona Aug. 20 at 7 p.m.
Everyone is welcome to come
and join in the musical worship.
