2. The secondary direct aim is the cultivation of the practical virtures which include: prudence and
art. Prudence is developed by examining the principles of conduct and this is the study of the
moral sciences. Art, which concerns the principles of making, leads to the study of the principles
of vocational or professional education. This study could also require an examination of the
techniques of the art.
The Means to the End are:
1. The moral sciences which aim at the prudence of human acts and include the following: Ethics,
Government, Law, Education, Sociology, Economics, History.
2. The study of the principles and techniques of art and include the following:
a. The Fine Arts: Literature & Music
b. The Useful Arts: Military, Journalism, Accounting, Business Administration, Finance,
Drawing, Management, Marketing, Surveying, Physical Training.
II. The indirect aim of formal education is the cultivation of the moral as well as the infused virtues.
THE MEANS TO THIS END include all of those life opportunities which the school can make
available. These include the atmosphere of a Christian College campus which should at all
times be the example of a perfect Christian community.
In this analysis Logic, Language, and Expression are not considered ends so much as universal tools
required by all who aim at a liberal education-the sine qua non conditions for being educated at all.
