Hereford is piloted by a man.
Chances are, the speck—
trailing a miles-long spume of
whate—is a Fl 00 supersonic
fighter-bomber stationed at Can-
non Air Force Base, Clovis, N.M.
The pilot may be 1st Lt. Rob-
ert Craigmyle, shown in these
pictures. Craigmylp is a full-
time pilot in the 388th Fighter-
Bomber Squadron of the 312th
Wing. He is also equipment of-
ficer.

ber of Tactical Air Command, is
ready to go anywhere on the
globe and fight on a moment’s
notice.
At left Craigmyle holds arctic
survival suits while wearing his
regular flying gear. On the floor
are articles contained in a sur-
vival kit which the pilot takes
with him on any flight of great
distance. The kit will help him
live in the arctic, the desert or
in the tropics.
At far right, the pilot demon-
strates his oxygen mask—a most
necessary item. Top right, Craig-
myle gestures <~to emphasize the
importance of being alert and
knowing how to use all the
equipment. A pilot fully loaded
with helmet, oxygen mask, sur-
vival suits and kit and para-
chute carries 90 pounds of extra
weight.
