JOHN DAVID
The Shepherd Baby
here!
Proud parents of John
An acute need for foster parents-particularly for
children over ten and those with special problems-
exists in both Johnson and Tarrant Counties, reports
Mrs. Martha Kate Downey of the Tarrant County
Child Welfare Unit.
Presently the unit finds it necessary to locate a
foster home for a 13-year-old girl.
Due to the fact that the girl has severe emotional
problems stemming from her background, a long-time
foster home is being sought for her, they explained.
Foster parents with perseverance, the ability to
care for the child for two to three years and who would
be willing to work with mental health and mental
retardation representatives are needed immediately,
said Mrs. Downey.
Welfare officials feel it would be best if there were
no other teenagers in the home inasmuch as the child
who needs placement is emotionally about ten years
old.
On the other hand they say she is affectionate and
good with children from infancy to three years old.
She likes to cook and help in the kitchen and is willing
to perform chores she is asked to do.
She likes music and her reading level is high, but
her over all capabilities put her below average for her
age. She would be a candidate for public school-poss-
ibly in the special education segment-welfare workers
pointed out.
They also noted that she has a disease which affects
the involuntary muscles of the body. Presently the
affliction is in remission, being controlled by
; [ administering a drug. Medical appointments would be
I therefore be necessary.
They desire to place the child in a home with much
structure-with someone who can overlook her
behaviour and see the problem-in order to help her
overcome and change her present liabilities.
Persons interested in becoming foster parents for
< I the above described child are urged to call Mrs.
;! Downey at 921-3411. She will be happy to provide
<! further information.
The affiir will be held in
the new e hall just off
Briaroaks Road. Serving will
begin at ]6:30 p.m. and
continue until all ice cream is
sold.
I Proceeds will be used to
make payment on construc-
tion of the fire hall.
