“THE DOCTRINE OF JUSTIFICATION"
Romans 3:24-26,4:5
“But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that
justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness”
This doctrine of justification runs throughout the Bible.
God dealt with Abraham long ago in Genesis 15:6, “And he
believed in the Lord; and He counted it to him for
righteousness.”
People often try to justify themselves by basing their
thinking on what they see wrong if the lives of others as
compared to their own feelings of superiority. People many
times seek to justify their friends and loved ones. I have
gone into homes many times to deal with lost husbands and
wives about their souls and have heard it said, “Oh,
preacher, he (or she) is a good person and all right with
God.” My dear friends, only God can justify or make
right with God.
Justification is a legal term meaning to declare certain',
things to be true. God is the judge. In order for you and me
to be declared right by God, forgiveness must be evident.
This forgiveness is based on Christ’s death in my stead and
my acceptance of His agonizing work on the cross.
After my acceptance of Christ I am restored. God brings
me back to Himself after having been separated from Him
because of sin. This brings calmness and serenity of soul. We
live happily in the Father’s bliss. We enjoy the dictates of
His Holy will. Just as the prodical son returned homato be
given a new robe, shoes for his feet, a ring for his har^^Mxi a
fatted calf for a joyous feast, so we are happy.
After my acceptance of Christ, I am adopted. AdoyBRn is
the method of God for introducing sons into his family.
Adoption gives the rights and privileges of those who belong
to the blood relationship. God reached out on His own,
through Christ, and gave us the legal right to be included in
His family. We were not of His family because of wrong
choices, yet God took us in.
My little sixteen-month-old daughter, Joannah, is
adopted. She was given to us by God at the age of one
month. She now is in our family legally forever, with the
same joys, rights and privileges, responsibilities and
sorrows as each of us. We love her very much, just as God
loves you and wants to take you into His family.
“For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to
fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby
we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with
our spirit, that we are the children of God; And if children,
then heirs: heirs of God, and joint heirs with Christ: if so be
that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified
together.” (Rom. 8:15-17)
One can never be made right with God by his works or
through his own efforts. The Bible says that all have sinned
and come short of the glory of God. Galatians 2:16 says, “By
the works of the law shall no flesh be justified in his
sight...but that we might be justified by faith in Christ.”
When we say God forgives, we mean that He takes the
wrongs we have done and places them upon His Son. There
are two kinds of wrongs in the Bible, personal and imputed.
Imputed wrongs means that Christ took the load and blame
for my wrongs and yours. Christ stood in our behalf to carry
our sins away from the Heavenly Father, who cannot look
upon sin.
God just simply provided and declared a way. The way is
through his Son Jesus. Jesus was God’s love expression.
Through our acceptance of Jesus we are declared right with
God:
“Being justified freely by His grace through the
redemption that is in Christ Jesus.” (Ephesians 2:8)
What good will it do me to accept Christ into my life? It
will give me peace with God. Such peace means that war is
done. God now has nothing against us.
To accept Christ gives access to the full measure of God’s
grace as stated in Romans 5:2.
“By whom also we have access by faith unto this grace
wherein we stand and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.”
We have hope, if we have accepted Christ. There is no
hope in other philosophies, religions, ideas, practices, or
reliances. Such hope does not make us ashamed of our
Christ, but rather, we become agents of the over-flowing
love or God spread abroad in our hearts. We have joy and
rejoicing in those present experiences and those yet to be.
We have the living Christ. What a benefit! Christ once
died, but He arose after killing my sins. I now follow that
living Christ as He daily goes about defeating the evil that
comes to me. Without this living Christ, I would be
conquered each day.
“For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God
by the death of His Son, much more, being reconciled, we
shall be saved by His life.” (Rom. 5:10)
43 Attend Sr. Citizens Meeting
