NEW APPROACH-Stewardship campaigns should be
exciting and pleasurable in addition to having their
serious moments. That’s the reason members of a
committee in charge of a stewardship campaign
Kingswood United Methodist Church are using a pew
approach. Likened to the Pony Express system of more
than a century ago, teamwork will be emphasized in thp
campaign. Here Rev. Jim Chandler, pastor shows tji£-
saddlebags which will be hand-carried to families in the
church. They will complete an “estimate of giving” card, 5
seal it in an envelope and insert it in the saddlebag before
it’s delivered to another family on “the route”. -Star

“LIFE FROM THE DEAD”
Ezekiel 37:1-28
“Thus saith the Lord God unto these bones; Behold I will
cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live;...and ye
shall know that I am the Lord.”
Ezekiel, the prophet of God, had sought to minister<to a
people who had suffered a great deal. Some of them had lost.
their possessions. Some had lost loved ones, and all of them
had lost their native land. Many had lost their faith.
As you look at this situation and study the truths there
you can come to see something of the world and its needs in
our day. - $
The problem of God’s people were shown in Ezekiel by a
valley of dry bones, perhaps the bones of those slain in a
previous battle.
The prophet first saw that there were many. This wks^jy
no means an encouragement to this preacher, for they wefe
dead or lifeless. This was a vivid picture of decay, defeat and
'distress, and immediately the preacher’s heart sank.
These bones were scattered or disarranged. There wasmo
togetherness.
Such was the scatterness of the world when Jesus came.
Men were dead in trespasses and sin and souls were
shattered.
We see so much of this today in unrighteousness, envy,
murder, strife, and deceit. Seemingly on every side we have
aspirations without goals, opinions with no basis and habits
that have lost meaning which are hard to break.
Perhaps the worst picture here that God showed Ezekiel
is that those bones had no Spirit of God. Brothers and Sister,
there can be no life without the Spirit of God. Only God can
enable us to rise above our sin-deadness and put us back,in
unison.
When Ezekiel saw this sight, fire arose in his bones. He too
became alive. God gave him a vision. ..
God has always chosen to work through men and women.
God worked through Moses, Joseph, and even the woman,
Hannah, as He put it in her heart to dedicate her sqn,
Samuel, to be the Lord’s great leader.
Has God touched your life and spoken to your heart about
meeting man’s needs? He did so with Ezekiel. Those God has
used through the years have been the ones in intimate touch
with Him.
Training, education in the home and schools and the
observations of life are good to help prepare one for service,
but non can’compare with the touch of God. Man goes out Jo
serve defeated to begin with, if he does not come afresh
from the touch of God upon him.
What good is a preacher without a people? The purposepf
the good news of life is releated to people. Ezekiel sgw
people in need. He sat down among them. He saw through
their eyes, and heard through their ears, hurt with their
wounds and wept through their eyes.
What compassion and care is shown here. Would to' Cfod
that we would take such interest in Burleson and
where the people are in their homes to see and know.Hjpin.
The people on your very street are longing for you td;jklk
to them or show interest. We are never going to JC^ph
people until we go where they live.
Some say what’s the use in my going. Nothing will ha,j^,en
if I do visit my neighbor. This was not the belief that Ezekiel
had, for he believed in the sufficiency of God. God asked’hjtn
this question, “Can these bonese live?” Ezekiel replied, ijot
by some individual concept but answered, “Thou kno$|$|.”
We need the same belief as Ezekiel, that God is abl£-to
solve any problem or work out every situation whehyfeds
turned over to Him. There is no record of any failure of.fr,ust
or committment on God’s part.
The man Ezekiel spoke or proclaimed in order for^^’s
life-giving power to come. God them gave His life-giyifig
promise, just as He still gives today:
“I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall
It is God’s business to give life, but it is our businaks^fo
speak.
After the prophet spoke, he prayed that prayer that C3£h
of us today should pray for God’s Spirit to fall on 'itsi?
“0 breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they-may
live.”
