a field trip to Glen Rose
State Park Tuesday the
22nd. They carried a sack
lunch and left as many
footprints as the dinosaurs,
according to den leaders.
Cubs in Den I are David
Moad, Bobby Cox, Sean
Luke, Terry Kirk, Chris
Metheny, Roddy Smith,
Mark Vargas and Rob Cra-
ton, with leaders Kay Smith
and Pat Cox.
Antiques, oil paintings,
unusual jewelry, hand paint-
ed china, in fact, almost
anything you can think of,
will be displayed and sold at
the Alvarado Bicentennial
Homestead Festival on June
26-27 from 1-9 p.m.
A real carnival spirit will
prevail at the Festival. Have
fun dunkin’ someone into the
water tank, ride a buckin’
barrel, join in the potato race
or the sack races. Ride the
merry-go-round, or visit the
‘spin paint booth’ and make
yourself a picture (finger
painting). Take a ride in a

surrey, or just stroll about
and see everything while
eating cotton candy.
Visit the We-X-L 4-H
booth for cokes and ice tea,
or the Methodist church
booth for lemonade and tea
cakes. The American Legion
will have real barbecue and
the Alvarado 4-H club home-
made bread, as well as lovely
plants to take home.
Bethany 4-H will have
cookies and cup-cakes; while
over at the St. Paul’s Baptist
booth there will be a cake
sale and something which
always went along with the
lism, directed seminars and
workshops for the lay-past-
ors fellowship organization,
served on the general board
of evangelism, and was nam-
ed by fellow ministers as a
delegate to the 1975 jurisdic-
tional conference in Nebra-
ska, which elected four new
bishops for the church.

then at Graham for five
years. Under his direction,
the Graham church razed its
old building and constructed
an $800,000 church unit.
Darnell recently assumed
the pastorate of a church at
Walnut Springs. His duties
at F&M Bank will be in
addition to his church work
at the Bosque County
Church.
Graduated in 1960 from
Texas Wesleyan College at
Fort Worth with a bachelor
of science degree in psycho-
logy, Darnell completed sem-
inary work at Perkins School
of Theology at Southern
Methodist University in Dal-
las. While pastoring at Gra-
ham, he was on the faculty at
Ranger Junior College and
taught psychology for four
years.
At Graham, Darnell was a
member of the Lions Club,
Chamber of Commerce, the
Symphony Club and served
as a board member of the
Graham General Hospital for
four years. Darnell and his
wife, Theda, now live in the
Mabe Addition south of
Burleson. They have two
sons, T. J. of Burleson and G.
D. Darnell of Graham. Dar-
nell is a Mason.
In addition to pastoral
duties, Darnell is active in
the Central Texas Confer-
ence of the United Methodist
Church. In 1972 he began an
eight-year term as a member
of the Conference Board of
Ministry, which selects new
ministers. He served an
eight-year term as confer-
ence secretary of evange-

son 4-H club will put on a
dance called ‘The Flag Re-
view.’
The Worsham Gospel Sin-
gers will be featured beginn-
ing at 7 p.m. on Saturday
evening, and the Baptist
Youth Choir will sing on
Sunday.

old Alvarado Citv Hall, Al-
varado Institute, Old High
School, and the Barnesville
Church). Watch an expert as
he works on the restoration
of this 1953 homestead.
Lapichon Enterprises will
have rocks and minerals,
from small tumbled stones
which sell for five cents, to
sterling silver bracelets set
with turquoise from Mexico
‘ or Malachite from Africa,

Jay W. Darnell, a Metho-
dist minister for 20 years,
has joined F&M State Bank
in Burleson as assistant vice
president-marketing, rep-
ports George E. Bransom
Jr., bank president.
Bransom said Darnell will
have responsibilities for new
accounts and other market-
ing functions, including cust-
omer relations and repre-
senting F&M Bank at var-
ious civic, govermental and
public programs throughout
this area.
“Jay Darnell is well-
known and his talents will be
an asset to our bank,” the
president said. “His exper-
p ience and knowledge will
enhance F&M Bank’s ex-
4 panding services to indivi-
dual and commercial custo-
mers.”
Born at Chisholm, Rock-
wall County, Darnell was in
the retail grocery business
for 25 years before going
into the ministry in 1956. He
was ordained by the United
; Methodist Church in 1960.
His first pastorate was in
Bedford, where he helped
organize a church and super-
vise construction of worship
and educational facilities. In
1962 he came to Burleson as
pastor and directed con-
struction of a church educa-
tional building. For three
years until 1971 he was
