Denying the argument .of Homer
Chancey, California banker and re-
cent Waco forum speaker, who some
weeks ago told the IJons Club that
goods could be sold cheaper if so
much money were not spent on ad-
vertising, L. M. Coyne, Waco adver-
tising mart, told the same dug Wed-
nesday noon at the Raleigh hotel that
the opposite is true.
Coyne declared hut mass produc-
tion is not possible without mass con-
sumption, and that mass consumption
is obtained by advertising.
•‘'The only way you can lose on
advertising is by stopping it,” hO
said, and told the story of. Pearline,
a farmer popular washing power,
which he said dropped out of sight
in 10 yeafs 'because its makers de-
cided to save $3,000,000 a
not advertising it. People
ing it.
“It is all very well for
to say you can go to drug stores
and get for a few cents, the ingred-
ients of patented products which sell
tor more.” said Coyne.
“You can also get tor 65c in a
good drug store, all the ingredients
of the human body, but you would
have a hard time putting them to-
gether properly tomnke a man.

INSPECT GAS PLANT
According to D. R. Fitch, chairman
of the Clean-up Campaign, the court-
house square will be swept and clean-
ed early Sunday morning. Several
days ago a committee, called on all
the merchants and asked for a con-
tribution to pay for the work on the
square. It was found that the mer-
chants were glad to donate to this
purpose and that they were anxious
to have the square thoroughly clean-
ed. The secretary of the Chamber
of Commerce collected the donations

Mayor R. J. Piane, C. C. Abney,
D. R. Fitch, Kyle Oliver and Ross W.
Bailey went to Kerrvelle, Friday, to
inspect a butane gas plant used there.
It is not the same type as would be in-
stalled in Lampasas hut they were
very impressed with this plant. The
'City Council has the question of se-
curing gas hero under consideration
and at present all indications are
that a plant will be installed for the
use ofLampasas people.

Sunday, May 9th, is Mother’s Day and ol course we
all want to remember our mothers with a visit, a letter,
a message or some appropriate gift. We know that we
can not keep them with us always and it is very ap-
propriate that a day is designated each .year for them.
In connection with this day of remembering Mother,
wc want to offer a suggestion that will lighten her bur-
dens each week and give her more time to devote to
the things that she really likes to do. That suggestion
is-—Send the family laundry to us each week.
