tempts while l a Porte com-
pleted six of 14. Alvin fum-
bled four times and lost half
of them, I a Porte, on the
other hand, lost two-thirds
of their nine fumbles.
The JV scoring started with
7;30 left on the clock in the
second period when Rex Chasey
plunged three yards for a
t ..hdvwt;, flic pass attempt
for extra points was no good
With only nine seconds left
in the half, Kent Wald rep
scored on an option play from
10 yards out. The extra point
attempt failed and Alvin went
to the lockers 12-0 in a fairly
tight game.
The third quarter produced
second score for the Yellow-
jackets on the one-foot line.
Alvin’s chances for going tc
district seem slim, but an up-
set '•ould.justhappen. La-f^rte
still as to face Pearland,Dic-
kinson and Lincoln, either or
both of the last two could up-
set La Porte and put Alvin
back in serious distri't com-
petition The only problem
with that thinking is that La
Porte would have to be beaten
by one and at >ast tied by
the other for Alvin to have a
chance
Statistically. Alvin was only
two first downs from La Porte,
10 to 12; the Yellowjackets
picked off two interceptions.
La Porte pot none La Port**
brought in 335 rushing yards.
Joe Lockette (24) making 201
of them, to Alvin's 189. Mike
Karz broke the one bundled
mark for Alvin with 105 yards.
Alvin was penalized six
times for 6n yards. La Porte
lost 85 yards on seven pen-
alties.
The Yellowjackets lost two
of their three fumbles and La
Ports lost two out of two.
In the air Alvin, outpointed
La Porte 109 to 80. The Bull-
dogs completed only four of
15 attempts while Tom White
brought in two out of five and
Meccr competed half of the
six he threw for Alvin.
With a 7-1 record. Alvin's
chances for a district champ-
ionship are slim. To be eli-
gible for a district spot. La
Porte would have to sgrri-
’fice a district game. which
they have not yet done. La
Port* lias been beaten only
by Sweeny and Deer Park this
year neither of those dis-
trict games.
According to Coach Neil
Hoskins . "it wasn't our
night.” Hoskins explained that
rhe boys made too many mis-
takes, too many penalties and,
the roach added, "the ball call
on double 00.
Alvin's first chance to srorc
in the second period, from the
barks.”
Coach Hoskins did not blame
Alvin’s loss on die officiating,
although he admitted it con-
tributed to it. Hr concluded,
"We didn’t do the things we
should have done.”
Still, there were players
who did an outstanding job and
contributed to a tine record
of ball playing. Ralph Dearing
averaged over 45 yards on his
kicks. Jim Stephens came
through on the extra point and
Mike Kacz was stopped only
by the clock from making the
yard pass to Marvin Kirk for
a score, then duplicated the
play for the c onversion.
With 4:00 left in the game
Kirk plunged one yard for a
score after running two 20
yard plays in succi ssion.
Then, two minutes later,
Casey plunged two yards for
a score after setting up the
play with a 30 yard run. Casey
ran over for the two points
putting Alvin ahead 34-0.
Coach 1 andis picked Rex
Casey, Marvin Kirk and Bob-
bie Schovajsa from the of-
fensive team for players of
the week and Dennis Elliott.
Byron Barnes, David Row and
Donald McGregor from the de-
fensive squad
He gave special mention to
Philip Nolen for pass inter-
ception and special commen-
dation to Jerry McKinney who
averaged over 43 yards per
kick with a wet ball.
FRESHMEN
Meanwhile, in La Porte, the
Yellowjacket Freshmen were
playing a tight game from the
beginning. Wayne Nowak
scored first on a two yard
plunge off right tackle, then
La Porte recovered a fumble
on the 20 and scored ending
the first quarter 6-6
La Porte stored in the sec-
ond quarter on a 20 yard pass,
then Alvin's Ralph Thomas
pulled a five yard score on
a keeper, ending the half
12-12.
La Porte scored again tn
the tlnal period with 6:00 left
on the clock, putting the tXill-
dogs ahead 18-12. With 3H2

some lucky breaks toppled
