fourth behind Hitchcock who
is expected to drop nut of any
contending standings when
district play gets moving.
La Porte has a 2-2 record
with only 52 points totaled
against their defense and they
hold the top scoring spot with
97 points for four games

Carmel ended in a fumble to
the 'Jackets, but the Rebel
defense held true and forced
a punt from Alvin.
The punt set up the first of
three consecutive second
quarti r touchdowns for the
Rebels. The first score came
when Rebel quarterback,
Charles Lewis, threw a 30
yard bomb to split end Stel-
vian Jackson who ran over for

On Alvin's second play af-
ter the kickoff they fumbled
on their own 33. leaving Mt.

La Marque Lincoln, Channel-
view, and La Porte will blast
off in their first game of 12-
AAA district play Friday night
in what is imagined to be one
of the tightest races in Texas
AAA.
State ranked Alvin may have
the potential to live up to their
forming legend since they hold
th* season record with an un-
defeated title bid.
Alvin has claimed victory
over the Wharton Tigers. Dul-
les Vikings. Angleton Wild-
cats. and the Mt. Carmel
Rebels.
The Yellowjackets go into
district play against Dickin-
son Friday night carrying a
record of only 42 points scor-
ed against their defense.

the field goal attempt to score
with only 23 seconds left in
the half. The drive was spark-
ed by a 17 yard pass from
Mercer to Stephens, a 14yard
pass from Mercer to Gray,
and stabbing runs by little
Danny Corson. Set up on the
five yard line Jim Mercer
put the skin into the air to
i onnect with Gray for the
touchdown Stephen kicked the
PAT to give a ray of hope to
the Jackets with the score
at 19-14
The third period was all
Alvin as they netted three
touchdowns in only six min-
utes.
The Yellowjackct de f e n s e
held the Rebels and forced
them tc give up two fumbles.
The first score came after
Eddie Knight recovered a
fumble on the 39 and return-
ed it to the 20 F rom the 20
Danny Corson drove almost
singlehandedly in three of four
downs to the Mt. Carmel five
yard line.
From the five, Jim Mercer
kept th* ball on a roll out for
the TD. Stephens kicked the
PAT to put Alvin ahead21-19.
Another fumble was recov-
ered by Steve (Sarnes and re-
turned to the 21 where it was
driven seven plays to the three

carried the ball over and Ste-
phens kicked, leaving Alvin
out in front. 28-19.
After the kickoff Mt. Car-
mel was forced to punt Char-
lie Goodson grabbed the ball
on the punt and returned it
60 fantastic yards for the
touchdown. The PAT was in-
complete. but it gave Stephens
a 4-5 game record and helped
Alvin to the 34-19 victory.
The fourth quarter was
completely scoreless, but a
pass interception by Steve
Barnes gave Alvin the ball
near the end of the last per-
iod. They drove to the one
yard line where the clock ran
out to end the ball
