AAA championship.
The only team that had a
chance to catch the charging
■Jackets was the Lincoln
Eagles, who have two losses.
After last Friday night's win,
the ’Jackets could not pos-
sibly lose with only one game
left to play.
Frank Johnstone led the
'Jacket attack in the clincher
with a whopping 31 points.
Chuck Walker was the next
nigh point getter with 16 tal-
lies.
Johnstone had a big first
quarter which saw him post
12 points on the scoreboard,
all field goals. He tallied only
four in the second period, add-
ed six in the third stanza and
scored nine more in the final
quarter.
Walker’s big quarter was
the third when he tallied 10
points in a 25 point effort by
the ’Jackets that put the game
out of reach of the Oilers.
The ’Jackets had a big 51
per cent shooting from the
field and 61 per cent from
the free throw line. They gath-
ered in 39 rebounds, 25 of
them while on offense and 14

Play Mustangs
At UofH Campus
The District 12AAA cham-
pion Alvin Yellowjackets will
be aprt of a high school prac-
tice doubleheader basketball
game Friday night, Feb. 20
when they take on the F riends-
wood Mustangs, champions of
District 28A in Hofheinz Pa-
vilion on the canpus at the
University of Houston.
The J a c k e t s will meet
Friendswood at 7 p.m. in the
first of the double: header and
Diboll and Cypress Fairbanks
will do battle in the second
game at 8:30.
Tickets for the game will
be on sale at the high school
attendance office until Fri-
day at noon. Tickets are $2
for adults and $1 for stu-
dents. Alvin’s ticket block will
be in aisles 30... 303, 305
and 307 at the pavilion.

Head coach Aubrey Homer
said last Tuesday afternoon
that the time and location of
the game probably would be
decided this coming Saturday
when he and the Dulles coach
would get together and make
the decision.
“It will probably be a single
game to tie played between us
and Dulles, more than likely
on Tuesday night, Feb. 24,”
Homer said.

Andy Triplett, a five foot-
eight inch senior on the Dis-
trict Championship Alvin Yel-
lowjacket squad has been
named Playe r Of The Week by
head coach Aubrey Horner.
Andy scored six points and
gathered in four rebounds in
the game that clinched the
district crown last Friday
night against the Pearland Oil-
ers. He is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. William Triplett of Al-
vin.
