Lueders-Avoca ISD will hold registration for the 1987-88
Kindergarten class on May 22 from 2:30 until 3:30 p.m. in
the Kindergarten room.
Children enrolling for kindergarten must be at least five
years old on or before September 1, 1987. Records of im-
munizations and birth certificates are required for
registration.
Lueders-Avoca ISD will hold registration for pre-kinder-
garten students on May 22 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the Kin-
dergarten room.
To be eligible for enrollment in the 1987-1988 pre-kinder-
ten class, the child must meet the following requirements:
1. Be four years old on or before Sept. 1,1987 ; 2. Be unable
to speak and comprehend the English language; or 3. Be
from a family whose income, according to standards set
by the State Board of Education, is at or below subsistence
level.
Records of immunizations and a birth certificate are re-
quired for pre-kindergarten registration.

St. John's to kick off summer activities
St. John’s United Methodist Church will have a Saturday
night kick-off for their summer activitiy program. A ham-
burger cook out will begin at the church at 6 p.m. (Bring
your own hamburger patties.) Sue Worley will return this
summer as activity director. Tentative plans have been
made for several camping activities, an area wide youth
rally and a summer mission trip and Vacation Bible
School.
FFA schedules Award Banquet
Stamford FFA will have its Award Banquet Tuesday at 7
p.m. at the Bunkhouse. School administrators, school
board members, students and parents are invited to at-
tend. Dress will be casual.

Commerce will hold its 6th an-
nual Big Bass Classic tourna-
ment Saturday and Sunday,
June 6 and 7 at Lake Stamford
Marina.
The grand prize will be 1500.
If there are more than 200 en-
tries, the prize money will be
doubled.

free graduation party for the
Senior Class of Stamford High
School, has received excellent

The Stamford Junior Sheriff’s Posse will ride in the
Haskell parade today (Thursday) at 5:30 p.m. All mem-
bers wishing to ride need to be at the rodeo grounds by
4:45. Ex-members need to turn in their equipment to Carl
Griggs. The Posse will have a playday Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
VIP Center to have rummage/bake sale
The VIP Center will hold a Rummage Sale and Bake
Sale Friday from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9
a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Center, 508 Gould. This fundraiser will
benefit the nutrition program for senior citizens.

Men's softball tournament planned
Crossover Ministries of Stamford Assembly of God will
sponsor a mens slow pitch softball tournament May 22 and
23 for Class C teams and under.
Proceeds will be used to send youth to camp. Entry fee is
$90 per team. Registration deadline is May 16.
Oldtlmers to Ijave annual Basket Lunch
The Texas Cowboy Oldtimers will have their annual
Basket Lunch Saturday, May 16, pt the Bunkhouse. Coffee
and fellowship will begin at 10 a m. with lunch being
served at 12 noon. A business meeting will follow lunch.

The Jones County Commis-
sioners awarded bids for equip-
ment for Precincts 1 and 2 dur-
ing their regular meeting Mon-
day morning in Anson.
WesTex Equipment Co. of
Abilene won all bids.
Precinct 1 Commissioner Bill
Moore purchased two graders
at the cost of $93,500 on one and
$90,500 on the other. The cost of
the lower priced unit will be
further lowered by a $10,500
buy-back of a 120 series unit the
precinct currently owns.
Jerry Manske, commissioner
of Precinct 2, purchased a
motor grader at the cost of
$96,500.__
J.L. Cole, area supervisor for
child welfare, met with the
court to discuss a contract be-
tween the court and the newly
formed Child Welfare Board for
the county. Cole told the court
he would provide a 2-3 hour
orientation program for the
new board.
It was decided to have the
new board members meet with
the commissioners at their next
meeting to discuss the contract
and to set up a time for the
orientation sessions.
County agents Gary Stanford
and Martha Alice Spraberry
met with the court to seek funds
for the installation, mainte-
nance and supplies for a com-
puter. Stanford told the com-
missioners the computer, moni-
tor and printer will come from
the Permanent- University
Fund of Texas A&M Universi-
ty. The availability of the com-
puter is part of a new program
designed to help county agents
at the county level.
Stanford said he anticipates
using the computer and its ac-
companying software for cost
effectiveness studies as well as
budgeting and other items for
farmers and families within the
county.
Cost of installation and soft-
ware will be a one time cost of
$1040 with and estimated $270
per year for a maintenance
contract with A&M and $250
yearly for supplies. Stanford
also told the court that there
w?s a possibility of negotiating
a maintenance contract with
another agency for less than
the $270.
After the October arrival of
the equipment, A&M will pro-
vide an instructor for three
days to work with the county
agents and their staff to help
familiarize them with the com-
puter and its capabilities.
Mrs. Spraberrry asked per-
mission to be absent from her
position from June 22-25 while
she attends a computer course
at Texas Tech from 9 to 1.
Commissioners approved
both requests from the agents.
Glenn Smith was approved as
a new Sheriff’s Deputy to re-
place Gary Bouton, who re-
signed effective May 1.
