Bethel celebrates
80th anniversary
By MRS. PHILIP OLSON Train
The Stale of Texas and the
Bethel Evangelical Lutheran
Church of Ericksdahl are both
celebrating milestones this
year of 1986 — Texas, her
150th year and Bethel, her 80th
year
March 2, 1936, is the birth
day of Texas; Bethel was or
gamzed Jan 25. 1906
Texas is observing her Ses

throughout the year while
Bethel officially celebrated
her Both anniversary with a
homecoming on Saturday.
Aug 16 and Sunday Aug 17.
when members, former mem
bers and friends gathered for
the two-day observance
The attendance was not as
large as expected but what
the gathering lacked in num
bers was made up by a warm
cordiality that pervaded the
entire meeting
Starting things off was the
coffee and registration from 3
to 5 p m on Saturday and held
in the spacious church base
ment, the long white covered
tables attractive with green

Ericksdahl. and of the Texas

Registering guests were
Mrs Donne Newquist and
Mrs Margaret Petterson The
name cards were pictured
with the chuck wagon around
which Bethel was organized in
1906, the white frame church
built in 1907 and the present
stone structure with the date
1940, the year of the corner-
stone laying, and the date
1906 1986
Mrs Leroy Lundgren was in
charge of the coffee, served
with trays of dainty, home
baked cookies
At 7 p m , follow ing the sing-
ing of the table prayer, led by
Birger Haterius. a fried
chicken supper, with cherry
cobbler for dessert, was
served at the nearby picnic
grounds by John Bill Oman
and his helpers, including the

later the congregation and
the visitors gathered in the
church sanctuary where Mr
and Mrs Arnold Peterson of

it is also very dangerous. Serious in-
