Bearden were elected the 1987
Mr. and Miss TSU in recent
elections by the student body
at Tarleton State.
Darrell was also Senior
Class Favorite and Missy was
a Senior Class Favorite nomi-
nee.
Darrell, a criminal justice
major, has been named to
Who’s Who Among American
Colleges and Universities. He
is the son of Ida Mae Griggs.
Missy is a marketing major
and is the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Carl Bearden.
Both students are 1963 grad-
uates of Stamford High
School.
Avoca TEHA Club has
meeting February 19
The Avoca TEHA Club met
with Alma Foster on Feb. 19.
Kila Lackey, president,
opened the meeting. Maudie
Dunklin gave the recreation
on astrology. Roll was called
by the secretary on “little
things I fail to be thankful
for.”
The mi lutes of the previous
meeting were read and ap;
proved. Alma Foster gave the
council report.
The club nominated Mrs.
Lackey as a candidate for the
district meeting April 14.
Following adjournment, re-
freshments were served.
The next meeting will be at
the home of Luella Johnson.

The new flag donated to Jones County is highlighted by symbols of the
county. Farming, medicine and the oil industry are represented as well
as the ranching industry. The brands around the edge of the flag were
registered in the county between 1881 and 1886.

HSU sets art
show and sale
Feb. 27 arid 28
Hardin-Simmons Universi-
ty’s Department of Art will
host its annual Western Art
Show and Sale in HSU’s Duffy
Auditorium of Richardson Li-
brary Feb. 27 and 28.
Friday, Feb. 27, the show
and sale will begin at 9:30 a.m.
and end at 9 p.m. Saturday,
Feb. 28, doors will open at 9:30
a.m. and close at 5 p.m.
Twenty percent of each pur-
chase will be donated to HSU
as a tax-deductible gift. Buy-
ers will receive a gift receipt
upon purchase of an art piece.
Participating artists in this
year’s show include Pamela
Gilbreth Watkins of Buffalo
Gap, Bill Mittag of Abilene,
Terry Gilbreth of Clyde and
Barry Arthur and Mike Malo-
ney, both of Sweetwater.
Other artists will be Bill
Chappell of Hamilton, Debbie
Howlette Rodgers of Fort
Worth, Alan Kinney of Kerr-
ville, George Kovach of Black-
well and Bill Leftwich of Fort
Davis.

Ours names
prize winners
The top two prizes at the 5th
anniversary celebration of
Yours, Mine & Ours went to
out of town women. Bea Parks
of Benjamin was the winner of
the top prize, an oil painting,
with Lorene Chancey of Okla-
homa City taking home a
watercolor painting.
Other prize winners were:

set; Cheri Kohout, wooden al-
bum; Jimmie Darden, Has-

businessmen and citizens
have donated a new flag to
Jones County. Dave Reeves
made the formal presentation
of the flag to the Commis-
sioners’ Court at its Feb. 9
meeting.

At the business meeting,
presided over by Mrs. A.J.
Mills, reports were given and
a new member, Charlene
Bishop, was elected.
Mrs. George Long, program
director, introduced the pro-
gram: “Ageless Beauty De-
signs,” consisting of wood and
dried material, made and
commented on by Mrs. Harry
Jones County during the coun-
ty’s 1981 centennial year. A
similar flag was presented to
commissiners in July 1981
Sara Boaz of Anson and
Harry Carmichael of Sweet-
water designed the flag which
was quilted by Aunt Dinah’s
Quilting Group of the Anson
First United Methodist
Bounds, “Remembered Beau-
ty”; Mrs. Bogan Rhea,
“Roadside Treasures”; Mrs
Marvin Stanford, “Visions of
Beauty”; and Mrs. I.H.
Rogers, '“Summers Revis-
ited”.
Objectives covered were ar
tistic design, education and
conservation.
At the tea hour refresh-
ments were served from a
lace covered table. Pink
napkins and pink, yellow,

makers Club will have a called
meeting on Wednesday,
March 4, at 4 p.m. in the Com-
munity Center to discuss fi-
nancial reports and other im-
portant matters. If you are a
member of the club, please try
to attend this meeting.
Last weekend visitors in the
home of Bill and Polly Baitz
were Darin and Gregory Ep-
ley of Rule, Carey and Linda
Epley, Nathan and Jeffrey of
Dallas, Landra Johnson of

tie and Glen Dunham last
