Now that the grass is green again, it looks like baseball season
is here. Little League has already started and now, this
Sunday April 20, the New Ulm Firemen swing into action
with their opening game against Weimar in Weimar at 3:00
p.m. The first home game will be next Sunday, April 27
in a game against La Grange. It will be the afternoon of
the Annual New Ulm Firemen’s Fish Fry and should be quite
an attraction. New Ulm Manager Jimmy Marik has not
announced his 1975 roster but has a very tentative starting
lineup worked out for tbe Weimar game. It features Brian
Fahrentbold on the mound, Brad Rosentritt behind tbe plate,
Marik at third, Terry Byrum at shortstop, Davi d Marek at
second and Norman Kleke at first. From left to right in the
outfield are Ricky Russell, Bill Valadez and Lindsay Byrum.
The manager emphasized that there may be some changes in
that before the game. Tbe veteran right-handed burler Billy
Johnson retired this year and with Ronnie Scarce still playing
college ball at San Jacinto, the Firemen will be going
with their young pitchers this year, Johnson, Larry Boone
and Phil Harris all retired this year and Roy Golan is un-
decided. The Firemen will also be minus Tommy Dittmar
for the Weimar game due to military weekend duty. All in all,
tbe season should prove exciting. It is justly so because this
is pure, uncommercial!*** amateur baseball......a form
of sport that many people fee> is very exciting and full of
effort plus being pleasing to watch.
