With his comrades brave and true,
He fought, and fell, and died a hero
For his own red, white, and blue.
Just to make it home for Chirstmas,
That is where I long to be,
With the mistletoe and holly,
And the loved ones round the tree.

Dear Santa Claus,
I'm a little girl four years old and
I've tried to be good: so please bring
me a doll and buggy, a broom and
some dishes; also fruit and candy.
Remember all the other boys and
girls, too.
Love to you, Santa,

Famous Poet Writes Library
Club
Marlene Nelson, a member of
Library Club, recently received
following letter from Grace 1
Crowell, noted Texas poet:
Dear Marlene Nelson,
How kind of you to send me a
stamped and addressed envelope. So
few d( Bless you for it.
I can’t do much today by way of
a letter, tor I am in bed with a cold
but I shall not send the germ to you
if I can help it.
I enclose a little pamphlet, or
sheet, rather, which tells a bit about
my first writing. I am no longer
considered an invalid now, but I am
never so very strong. I shall send
you the list of my works so you can
see I have been busy over the years.
I began writing while I was iil, for
I needed something to employ my
heart and hands. I prayed God
would help me write things that
would prove helpful to others, and
He has done so, I feel sure, for
thousands of letters tell me so.
We have three fine sons, and two
little granddaughters of .whom we
are very proud. I keep on writing,
and usually can place my work. It
is great joy to do creative work. I
have one son, Reid, who writes far
better than I do, but he has not
been writing so very long and is not
as yet very well-known.
I have a 50-cent book, “Grace Noll
Crowell, the Poet and the Woman."
If you should want that for your
school library, it tells more about me
than I can write here, of course. It
has two pictures of me, one when
I was twenty and one when I was
the Ameiican Mother in 1938. I
have nine poems in it, and the rest
is written by an English writer,
Beatrice Plumb. Should you order it,
I shall be pleased io autograph it as
you desire.
Yes, I was Peet Laureate of Texas
from 1935 to 1939. There have been,
I believe, four others since then.
Every kind wish to you and your
school group. I cannot, due to lack
of strength, write to more than one
pupil in any school.
Sincerely,
Grace Noll Crowell

Christmas trees have become
10-million dollar industry in
United States according to C. W.
Simmons, farm forester, who points
out that the Texas Christmas tree
marked may be a source of addition-
al income to owners of farm timber.
Cutting of Christmas trees on a
commercial basis should be done
primarily to improve the condition
of the remaining trees, he says.
Pines, eastern red cedars, you-
pons, and liveoak are among the
Texas trees suitable for Christmas
use.
