Gentleness is one of the fruits
of the Spirit and the degree to
which this fruit develops is de-
pendent upon the nature and care
that is given to it. If this fruit
is not guarded and protected
from destruction forces it will not
grow and develop into the desir-
ed product.
Thsi fruit is tender when young
and needs constant and diligent
attention. Care should be exercis-
ed in feeding, watering and cul-
tivating plants that are expected
to bear fruit. The method and
tools that are used may hinder
or destroy rather than aid if
used improperly.
So it is with our growing chil-
dren. If they are treated with
gentleness, kindness and love they
will develop their qualities. A
gentle heart will be characteriz-
ed by the following.
A gentle heart is an under-
standing heart. It is a heart that
has compassion, love and sym-
pathy toward others. A little six-
year-old boy showed his love for
others, when called on to express
thanks at the evening meal prior
to attending a gospel meeting by
saying, “Dear Lord fill the seats
behind) me tonight and do not
leave them empty as they were
last night.”
It is important that parents
understand and give considera-
tion to the thoughts of the ado-
lescent. The very act of taking
your children into your confid-
ence, treating them with respect
and consideration usually brings
out their more co-operative in-
stincts.
A gentle heart is a forgiving
heart. It is a heart that is keen-
ly sensitive to its own sins before
God, and therefore, willing to ex-
ercise speedly its forgiveness of
others.
Jesus, being free from all sin,
showed mercy and compassion for
the sinner. When the adulterous
woman was brought before him,
he did not condemn the accusers
but let them condemn themselves.
And to the woman he said,
“neither do I condemn thee: go,
and sin-no more.” (John 8:1-11).
We, as parents and Christians,
need to possess this forgiving
spirit toward our children remem-
bering that to err is human, to
forgive is divine. Parents must
remember that they have a past.
“He hath sheded thee, O man,,
what is good; and what doth
the Lord require of thee, but to
do justly, and to love mercy, and
to walk humbly with thy God?”
We must humble ourselves and in
due time God will exalt us, there-
fore, one of the first things we
must learn is humility.
A gentle heart is an obedient

of the Lord.” We have Jesus as!
our example in doing
those things that
Father saying, O my Father, if
it be possible, let this cup pass
from me: nevertheless not as I
will, but as thou wilt” (Matt. 26:
39). Being found in fashion as a
man, he humbled himself, and
became obedient unto death, ev-
en the death of the cross (Phil.
2:7-8).
The spirit and tone of our home
will have great influence on our
children. If it is what it ought
to be, it will fasten conyictions
on their minds, which will guide
them safely and surely through
life.
A gentle heart is not the pro-
duct of chance. It bespeaks much
much time and effort expended
both by the parent in guiding and
by the child in being guided. A
young heart taking on qualities
of gentleness is rewarding to
those who guide it. It is a glory
to God whose grace made it
so.
Until next week may the Lord
bless you is our prayer. Be sure
and go to church Sunday.
