ed Mr. and Mrs. John Griffitt.
Mrs. Nora Watson is visiting [ were Mmes. Joe Sudderth, Leon
Hutton, Ernest Tarpley, W. C.
Griffitt.
Mrs. Jackson presided at the
guest hook where 35 people reg-
istered between the calling hours
of seven to nine o’clock.
The refreshment table was laid
with a cut work linen cloth. A
pink and blue flower arrange-
ment adorned the table.
Mrs. Sudderth and Mrs. Hut-
ton served pink fruit punch and
cookies decorated in pink and
blue.
Out of town guests included
Mrs. George Amwine, Mrs. J. W.
Williams, Mrs. V. R. Talent and
Mrs Charles White, all of Dallas;
Mrs. A. A. Stanley of Arlington;
Mrs. Ellis Sumrow, Miss Martha
Sumrow and Miss Barbara New-
man of Celeste.
You can judge a cantaloup by
the way it smells and the way
it looiks. But don’t rely on how
it feels or how it sounds.
Marketing specialists say that
feeling the blossom end of a mel-
on to find out if it’s ready to
eat is not always a good test. If
you’re the first one to do it, that’s
all right. But what if a few other
shoppers have made the touch
test before you?
The same thing is true about
shaking a melon to see if the
seeds are loose — another sign
of ripeness. The seeds may rattle
because so many other people al-
ready have given it a shake.
The most reliable way to get
a good cantaloup is by smell and
sight.
Look at the netting. It should
be coarse, corky and well-defin-
ed, and the color under the net-
ting should be turning from green
, to yellow. Look at the stem end.
There should be a slightly sunk-
en, smooth, well-calloused scar.
Smell the melon. If it smells
good, it should taste the same.
Mrs. D. E. Latimer, Donna and1
Bob of Dallas visited Paul Tay- >
lor and Mrs. Taylor last week
end.
