In I John 3:4 we learn that sin
is the transgression of law. Sin
is that which separates man from
God and hides God’s face from
man. (Isa. 59:1, 2.) From the time
sin first entered into the life of
man he has been trying to cover
his sins. In this article we will
consider the two ways man en-
deavors to do this.
There are two ways of cover-
ing sins, and one of them is the
wrong way. By using this method
we often hide owr sins from man,
but never from God. He is all-
seeing and all-knowing, as we
shall learn from the following
examples.
Adam and Eve . . The serpent
beguiled Eve and caused her to
eat of the forbidden tree. She in
turn caused Adam to eat of the
fruit. When God came walking in
the garden in the cool of the day.
Adam and Eve tried to hide their
sins by hiding among the trees.
(Gen. 3:8.)
After God found them and dis-
covered their disobeidence, Adam
and Eve tried to cover their sins
and justify themselves by blam-
ing someone else. Adam tried to
blame his sin on his wife. (Gen.
3:12.) Eve in turn blamed her
sin on the serpent. (Gen. 3:14-
24.) The Pharisees in the days of
Christ did much to appear righte-
ous unto man. Christ said, “But
all their works they do for to be
seen of men.” (Matt. 23:5.) They
tried to use this righteousness as
a cover for their sins.
Christ described them as wash-
ing the outside of the cup and
platter and neglecting the inside
(Matt. 23:25); and as whited sep-
ulchres “which indeed appear
beautiful outwardly, but are with-
in full of dead men’s bones, and
all uncleanliness.” (Matt. 23:27.)
Yet this pretence at righteous-
ness did not hide their sins from
Christ. He said of them. “Even
so ye also outwardly apepar right-
eous unto men, but within ye are
full of hypocrisy and iniquity.”
(Matt. 23:28.) Always remember
that we might cover our actions
from men but never from God,
“For the Lord seeth not as man
seeth, for man looketh on the out-
ward apeparance, but the Lord
looketh on the heart.” (I Sam.
1&:7.)
Some try to persuade them-
selves that time has covered their
sins. Many seem to think that
God will eventually forget our
transgressions; but time means
nothing to the Lord. The apostle
Peter, “But, beloved, be not ignor-
ant of this one thing, that one
day is with the Lord as a thous-
and years, and a thousand years .
as one day.” (H Peter 3:8.) Time
will not cover sins, because, “The '

Chevrolet will go to any length

rolet and Chevy II (and between parking
meters, with five whole feet left over).
Then, too, there’s the sporty 15-foot
Corvair, so right for so many people (you
girls, in particular) that we’ve never
touched an inch of it. And finally, Cor-
vette-still 14 feet and still too much
for any true sports-car lover to say no to.
The long and short of it is, you don’t
have to go to any length to find exactly
the kind of car you want. Just
see the five different lines of cars
at your Chevrolet dealer’s.
Things have changed a lot since a Chevy
was only a Chevy. Especially your ideas
of what you want a Chevy to be.
So now you have the Jet-smooth Chev-
rolet— 17 feet of pure luxury, bumper
to bumper. The size makes it a luxury car.
But not the price.
Or you can choose the thrifty Chevy II,
a . y c J’ e 1
passenger and luggage space.
This year, your choice might be
the new 16-foot-plus Chevelle,
sized to fit nicely between Chev-
Lord knoweth how to deliver the
godly out of temptations, and to
reserve the unjust into the day
of judgment to bo punished. (II
Pet. 2:9.)
There is another way of cover-
ing sins, and that is the right
way. The Psalmist David said,
“Thou hast forgiven the iniquity
of thy people, thou hast covered
all their sin.” (Ps. 85:2.) David
is referring to God. The right way
to cover sin is for God to for-
give us of our sins. How is this
done? Let us look at some ex-
amples.
The Pentecostians. In Acts 2,
the apostle Peter, after receiving
the Holy Spirit, stood up and
preached the first gospel sermon
to the people that assembled on
that occasion. These people had
put to death the Lord, and when
they heard this. “They were
pricked in their heart, and said
unto Peter and to the rest of the
apostles, Men and brethren, what
shall we do? Then Peter said un-
to them, Repent and be baptized
every one of you in the name of
Jesus Christ for the remission of
sins, and ye shah receive the
gift of the Holy Spirit.” (Acts
2:38.) These people obeyed the
words of Peter and in doing this
their sins were covered by the
Lord.
Do you have sins accounted
against you? Why not get them
covered? But remember that
there is a right way and a wrong
way. “He that covereth his sins
shall not prosper: but who so
conf esse th and forsaketh them
shall have mercy.” (Prov. 28:
13.)
Until next week may the Lord
bless you is our prayer. Be sure
and go to church Sunday.
